Triglav 0 - 6 Gmdjer

Overcast weather free of rain made for a turnout of 10566 at Triglav arena today. Janosch Nigg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Carlo Maria Coa and Zé Benedito Soares Melo. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Triglav decided to go with a 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been selected: Gregorowicz - Turina, Splingaire, Testas, Meh - Baluka, Kunerl, Panconesi, Quintero - Pardo Saenz, Colon.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Gmdjer prefers a 3-5-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. Lineup: Mosstrand - Blanc, Audenaerde, Buffon - Cotta Ramusino, Oražem, Trglavčnik, Turrieta, Sítek - Conceição, Šoštarec.

Given a free kick from an impossible angle, Gmdjer went for a play that loyal fans may recognize from training. A square ball surprised the defense and let F. Sítek slip through at goal. He hit it first time, making the score 0 - 1, 2 minutes into the game. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 29 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because G. Conceição had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. A thrilling play through the middle after 30 minutes gave Gmdjer's F. Sítek a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 2. Oh, the humanity! Triglav's L. Testas dropped as if a burning zeppelin fell on him. He may never be the same again. You may want to hide your eyes for the replay. M. Drazzi came in as a replacement after 31 minutes had been played. As Triglav's captain went off, he handed the armband to H. Baluka. After 34 minutes, Gmdjer's F. Sítek burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for F. Sítek! That's the name of the game! Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 36 minutes on the clock after F. Sítek's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Gmdjer player a yellow card though. Triglav's E. Pardo Saenz went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Gmdjer would have 73 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Gmdjer's F. Sítek received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 47 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 0 - 4. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! At this point, it was obvious that the players of Gmdjer lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. After 65 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for P. Audenaerde who increased Gmdjer's lead to 0 - 5. G. Conceição looked to be heading one way when he unexpectedly passed the ball back to B. Cotta Ramusino. The move caught everyone off-guard, including his teammate, who wasn't ready and took a heavy first touch. Triglav's E. Pardo Saenz managed a superb strike from the left after 72 minutes that would have left goalkeeper P. Mosstrand without a chance, had it not hit the post. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Gmdjer goal with 79 minutes gone, making it 0 - 6. A. Šoštarec was noted down as the scorer. 82 minutes into the match, G. Conceição came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Gmdjer had 68...68 percent possession. AH AH AH!

Most important Triglav player was J. Colon. Speaking of stinking up the place, J. Gregorowicz sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The most outstanding Gmdjer player was without a doubt J. Turrieta. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by P. Mosstrand today. The match ends 0 - 6.
