Clear skies welcomed the 74300 spectators who had made their way to pirxy Arena. Nicola Viggiani was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Manuel Jauregui Bereciartu and Cedric Träger. Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! pirxy will go to battle in a 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Bellucci - 俊光 (Junguang), Korpi, Vonheim - Reider, Ardia, Molina, Oron, Moyon - Söderén, Nasser.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Akihabara prefers a 4-5-1. Let's see how this plays out for them. Starters: Batebi - Le Brun, Palmer, Kutsiy, Kupari - Dlouhý, Morisue, Isayama, 稲葉 (Inaba), 藤岡 (Fujioka) - Raciti.

Many fans are yawning as Akihabara appears to be more enamored of using their formidable pressing skills to smother the opponents' attacks rather than create attacks of their own. But all will be forgiven if it achieves a good result. A beautiful, arcing corner kick from A. Ardia found D. Söderén at the far post, soaring to meet the ball. The keeper is late and he's headed it in for 1 - 0! A free kick just outside of the visitors' penalty area after 7 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but A. Batebi got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar. pirxy had to make a substitution after 28 minutes. R. Nasser apparently was hit by a thrown bottle of Schlitz by one of the opposing players' fans, and now reeks of blood and bad beer. While the coach remonstrated with the side official about the situation, J. Mancha Gil finished his warmups and came on. K. Üdingen was called on to replace pirxy's A. Oron after 34 minutes following a nasty collision. After a play down the right 35 minutes into the match, pirxy's T. Vonheim unleashed a ferocious shot that smashed into the roof of the net - after going over the crossbar. 41 minutes into the game, R. Raciti had to leave the field due to a knee injury. In came K. Mizushima. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. pirxy set the tempo, maintaining 65 percent of possession.

Akihabara pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a deadlock at times. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. A. Korpi was able to squirm through the central defense after 55 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 2 - 0. 昭. 稲葉 (Inaba) behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 57 minutes as he gave the ball away to R. Molina. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. pirxy's A. Korpi saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 65 minutes in. The bench was restless, and with 68 minutes gone Akihabara's coach gave K. Kitano the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. 整. 藤岡 (Fujioka) reluctantly left the field. The pressing tactics used by Akihabara were successful as the ball didn't make it out of the middle third very much. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Akihabara's M. Kutsiy was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the field after 82 minutes. S. Penev was given a chance to change things around. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that pirxy would have 65 percent possession in this half was spot on!

pirxy's top performer was clearly A. Ardia. Good thing J. Mancha Gil isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important Akihabara player was K. Mizushima. I can't remember S. Penev ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 2 - 0.
