Rangers 1 - 3 Wovers

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 11567 to Black Swan Lane. Swen Allstadt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Tzachi Shamir and Hud Waggoner. Gentlemen prefer blondes and Rangers prefers a 3-5-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. They fielded: Miller - Carlier, Zemelis, Leiva - Durling, Khan, Presle, Györe, Forest - Hill, Cação.

Our studio analysts were correct. Wovers has taken the field in a 3-5-2 alignment. The following players took the field: Fresta - Davenport, Bogenrieder, Francolino - Rutherford, Doel, Rosenthal, Kermer, Graham - Schøler, Dean.

The referee showed Wovers's H. Dean the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Wovers's A. Doel finally got himself booked for a foul. Rangers almost scored after a counter-attack 33 minutes into the match, but L. Cação took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side netting. Rangers fans held their breath as A. Hill gallivanted down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and fired home the go-ahead goal for 1 - 0! The visitors didn't give in and, after 37 minutes, D. Francolino got through the home side's central line of defense, rolling in the leveling goal to make it 1 - 1. Making his way up the middle after 39 minutes, A. Hill almost managed to sneak a goal past the visitors' keeper, but M. Fresta was ready and blocked it to keep the score level. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams as far as possession.

62 minutes into the game, J. Schøler was a hair's width away from giving Wovers the lead with a shot from the left. A timely dive by S. Miller saved the home team on this occasion. D. Francolino wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat. Rangers's coach was furious with G. Durling after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. C. Rosenthal was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. However, Wovers's D. Kermer managed to get ahold of the rebound and scored to make it 1 - 2. It wasn't a good day at all for T. Carlier. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day. The home crowd was not impressed when M. Rutherford came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 78 minutes. Wovers were now up 1 - 3. 79 minutes into the game, D. Francolino had to leave the field due to a knee injury. In came C. Porter. The battle in midfield was tight, with possession split evenly between the teams.

Most important Rangers player was A. Hill. I can't remember S. Miller ever having a worse night than he just had. The most outstanding Wovers player was without a doubt J. Schøler. Speaking of stinking up the place, C. Porter sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 1 - 3.
