Clear skies welcomed the 810 spectators who had made their way to PintaMaria Stadium. Greg Borckmann was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Alexander Nakov. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for PintaMaria. The following players took the field: Petrović - Aruta, Holec, Špatenka - Korbi, Falco, Hackenschmied, Benaglio, Mazzurana - Duprêt, Del Bosque.

FC-Bolzano had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. They fielded: Weinans - Lavi, D'Ascanio, Rodríguez Andrade, Pivovarovs - Lercher, Malazonia, Cruz, Pelucchi, Strūkovas - Adão.

FC-Bolzano seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their solid level with that tactic. At 7 minutes played, Marcos Del Bosque came in from the right with the intention of giving PintaMaria the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. It was obvious that team FC-Bolzano had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. PintaMaria's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision! Bruno Aruta's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper. Fabio Falco of PintaMaria received a yellow card after 19 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 29 minutes into the game, Carmine D'Ascanio was a hair's breadth away from giving FC-Bolzano the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by Vuk Petrović saved the home team that time. FC-Bolzano players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. FC-Bolzano's Manuel Sebastião Adão got himself booked for a foul. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by PintaMaria, with 52 percent of the ball.

FC-Bolzano were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. With 55 minutes gone, PintaMaria's Fabio Falco had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. When Manuel Sebastião Adão made yet another studs-first tackle after 56 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the FC-Bolzano player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, Redas Pivovarovs took over the role of being the FC-Bolzano captain. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a FC-Bolzano substitution. Emil Štaffa came on for Gino Pelucchi. After 80 minutes, the FC-Bolzano coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Mario Lercher off the field. Valter Fracassi took his place. FC-Bolzano had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for FC-Bolzano, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. 0 - 1 was the score with 98 minutes played, after Genutis Strūkovas cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for FC-Bolzano. What a dramatic win for FC-Bolzano! Most important PintaMaria player was Torquato Mazzurana. Marcos Del Bosque on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating FC-Bolzano player was without a doubt Redas Pivovarovs. Genutis Strūkovas turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 1.
