Dark skies made the crowd of 2611 at Suma Team Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Radomír Vrban was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Héctor Manuel Delgado and Igor Alexander Röbern. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Suma formed up in a 3-5-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. The following players took the field: Vargas - Schmidt, Azaña, Bordalás - Larrañaga, Castilla, Klemettilä, Dusseaux, Isca - Conadall, Freixas.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Bratislava prefers a 3-4-3. Let's see how this plays out for them. Starters: Šišovský - Kuchta, Roharík, Choreň - Imriščák, Kľučiar, Hold, Mačej - Sterrer, Padlák, Bebej.

Slack defending gave Suma a chance to take the lead with 3 minutes played, but K. Dusseaux's cross from the left flank was met gratefully by the opposition who cleared it to safety. E. Vargas looked great 8 minutes in after stopping a shot by the visitors' P. Padlák. Good work by Suma's defensive line after 9 minutes produced a good counter-attack chance, one of which cut elegantly down the middle of the field and found H. Klemettilä alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Bratislava's V. Bebej finally got himself booked for a foul. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 23 minutes into the match, and P. Padlák wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. V. Bebej knew he was in trouble after hacking down an opponent. Despite his pleading with the referee, the Bratislava player was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the game. It was 0 - 1 at the break. Suma set the tempo, maintaining 61 percent of possession.

With 46 minutes played, the Suma coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. B. Lindeiner came on and H. Klemettilä had to leave the fray. Suma's J. Conadall put his head on a fantastic ball lifted in from the left, and scored after 51 minutes to bring the teams level - 1 - 1. With 64 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, Z. Mačej needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Bratislava's S. Imriščák was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 72 minutes. Suma were very close to putting themselves one up with 75 minutes gone as S. Freixas got through on the left, but a lapse in concentration sent the ball wide. Suma did a good job holding on to the ball, with 60 percent of possession.

C. Azaña performed admirably for Suma. Speaking of stinking up the place, L. Bordalás sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Bratislava's top performer was clearly C. Roharík. I can't remember M. Kuchta ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 1 - 1.
