Dark skies made the crowd of 947 at Atomic Fisk Bowl a little nervous, but the rain held off. Terry Finney was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Fortunato Senzanonna. Atomic decided to use a 5-5-0 set up. Starters: Jones - Kuutamo, Havens, Breen, Harpegnies, Molina - McClure, Weller, Gomez, Wetzk, Gilley -.

Paraquats tactics involved an interesting 5-5-0 combination. Lineup: Huebner - Pogodin, Sheehan, Olalde, Hillman, Ewing - Mawe, van 't Hoog, Amaru, Milo, Ozon -.

The strategy for Atomic was to use their passable ability to press. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Paraquats, taking advantage of their solid level with that tactic. At this time in the match, Atomic were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Roman Pogodin got himself booked. The manager of Paraquats was not happy. It might be a while before the fans see Atomic's Jonne Kuutamo again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 24 minute mark. He was replaced by Hung Unger. Atomic's Topher McClure was shown a yellow card after 28 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Paul Mawe always provides an aerial threat at corners, and with 29 minutes gone, he demonstrated this, outjumping his marker, then letting out an anguished howl as his powerful header went narrowly wide. Paraquats's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. Paraquats claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Paraquats pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. Roman Pogodin would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Gilles Stassijns entered the game for Paraquats as the match clock showed 60 minutes. After 66 minutes, the Atomic manager redeployed his men. Frank Wetzk swapped positions with Yordi Harpegnies. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Paraquats substitution. Jimmy Matos came on for Bob Ewing. After 75 minutes, the Paraquats coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Everett Hillman off the field. Erick Means took his place. The pressing tactics used by Paraquats were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Paraquats enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.

As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. The Paraquats coach adjusted their lineup with 91 minutes gone. Peter van 't Hoog and Irvin Sheehan assumed each other's positions. As the clock reached 91 minutes, Atomic decided to regroup. Austin Jones gave Josué Breen a little pat on the back as they changed positions on the pitch. The result was still a draw, so the match had to be settled with penalties.

Atomic's Roger Weller didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Tibor Huebner. The score remained 0 - 0. Oooh - how unlucky!
