2987 spectators arrived at Fail Park, where weather conditions were pretty good for soccer. Andrés González was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Luís Alves and Gonzalo Obregón. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Valiants formed up in a 3-4-3 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. The following players had been selected: Sáenz Barrio - Harto, Micklehose, Coissoró - Dein-Butt, Henrique, Skrl, Frijling - Casters, Syman, Dervišagić.

Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! Vallen will go to battle in a 4-5-1 formation. Starters: Rueda - Lewhall, Håkansson, Bengtsson, Montero - Visser, Jacobsson, Effenberger, Freitas, Gačević - Göransson.

8 minutes into the game, Valiants had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to passable. As the 10 minute mark approached, the Valiants manager decided it was time for a substitution. A. Coissoró reluctantly made way for W. MacMurdoch. Valiants broke through on the left after 10 minutes, with O. Dein-Butt firing at an impossible angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The Valiants coach was happy with the scoreline, but still wanted to change the lineup. After 11 minutes, K. Landvoogd came on for M. Syman. Vallen's Q. Visser was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 26 minutes. Cheers filled the stadium as K. Landvoogd broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 2 - 0 goal for Valiants. K. Landvoogd increased Valiants's lead to 3 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. By now, the players of Valiants felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. A great save by keeper E. Rueda with 31 minutes gone kept the visitors in the game after J. Henrique struck from the left with a real cannonball. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Valiants's L. Skrl got himself booked. 35 minutes into the game, Valiants seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organization. 37 minutes in, Vallen appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only inadequate. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Valiants would have 65 percent possession in this half was spot on!

A review of the gameplan helped Valiants get back to a solid organization to start the second half. During the break, Vallen's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organization. The Valiants players could smell victory in the air. L. Skrl wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for B. MacCririe after 46 minutes. As Valiants's captain went off, he handed the armband to O. Dein-Butt. With 50 minutes played, the Vallen coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. A. Sousa came on and P. Göransson had to leave the fray. With 54 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, R. Montero needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. After 55 minutes, W. MacMurdoch put Valiants ahead 4 - 0 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. Valiants solidified their lead at the 77 minute mark, as N. Dervišagić snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 5 - 0. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Valiants's O. Dein-Butt bringing the lead up to 6 - 0. The referee showed Valiants's O. Dein-Butt the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 85 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Valiants found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to passable. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Valiants, with an impressive 72 percent possession of the ball.

Most important Valiants player was N. Dervišagić. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because R. Sáenz Barrio seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Vallen's best player was T. Effenberger. Speaking of stinking up the place, J. Bengtsson sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 6 - 0.
