5105 spectators had found their way to Richfield Coliseum, despite the heavy rain. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Robert Lunzer and . Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Tennessee derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Cleveland tactics involved an interesting 5-5-0 combination. The following players took the field: Freyre - Calloway, Ferrerira, Drake, Chartoff, Benner - Mujica, Erwin, Zimmerman, Cedillo, Worrell -.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Eastgate. They fielded: Buck-Spencer - Powell, Salvesen, Newton, Mullica - Beeswax, Waterchief, Morrero, Land - Goodman, Klein.

Cleveland were clearly looking ahead to the next match rather than focusing on the one at hand. 10 minutes into the game Eastgate managed a counterattack, but Magnus Waterchief took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. Nathaniel Land's speed was almost enough to give Eastgate a goal after 14 minutes, but his nice pass to Bennie Klein was not taken care of properly. Making his way up the middle 20 minutes into the match, Javier Mujica almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert Erich Buck-Spencer blocked it to keep the score level. With 23 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as Brian Chartoff flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Cleveland's José Ferrerira was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 24 minutes. After 27 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by José Ferrerira might have resulted in another goal for Cleveland. However, Erich Buck-Spencer made a spectacular save. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Cleveland enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.

During the break, Cleveland have had a conversation about the risk of taking this win for granted. At least some of the players should have taken this to heart as the referee signals the start of the second half. Randall Worrell's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Javier Mujica was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Cleveland. 2 - 0. Cleveland's Isaac Calloway got himself booked for a foul. Cleveland's Isaac Calloway struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 3 - 0 after 64 minutes. With 68 minutes played, Randall Worrell of Cleveland fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Cleveland increased the lead as Maurice Erwin struck to make the score 4 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The game was close to savage at times, and Cleveland's Isaac Calloway received a second yellow card after 73 minutes; his ticket out of the game. Unfortunately for Eastgate, Nathaniel Land was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. Simón Lazcano replaced him. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Cleveland's Randall Worrell increasing the lead to 5 - 0. Confident in their lead, Cleveland's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. With 85 minutes played, Teddy Zimmerman could have brought this one home for Cleveland as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. 87 minutes were showing on the scoreboard when Cleveland's José Ferrerira received his second yellow card and was sent off. The player down was Erich Buck-Spencer. The Eastgate bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up. With 89 minutes played, Cleveland put themselves up 6 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Brian Chartoff, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Cleveland claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.

The most dominating Cleveland player was without a doubt Javier Mujica. Estéfano Freyre on the other hand, had a terrible day. Eastgate's best player was Bennie Klein. However, Erich Buck-Spencer made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 0.
