The 62073 fans in attendance at Milodarka were roasting in the hot sun. Gareth Spann was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Marc de Grip. The match took place on neutral ground. Ukraina tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Nikesha - Butenko, Uvarov, Shmatovalenko - Leschenko, Lutskiy, Skvortsov, Nepiypivo, Kapelyushnikov - Lyashenko, Dolganskiy.

Rossiya had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Starters: Subbotkin - Grishukov, Beschastnov, Shubkin, Kalugin - Anshukov, Kolbasko, Klevin, Sinilin, Troitskiy - Burlakov.

It was an obvious ambition of Ukraina to use their divine (+1) ability at attacking on the flanks. 16 minutes in, Rossiya's Vsevolod Troitskiy received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Vsevolod Troitskiy tried using a burst of speed to get past his defender after 18 minutes, but it takes more than that to get past fast Gennady Butenko. Ukraina were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. The sun seemed to put Konstantin Shubkin in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Ukraina had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

Ukraina had a chance to take the lead after Veniamin Dolganskiy's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 49 minutes. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Anatoly Anshukov from Rossiya a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 50 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! As the 59 minute mark approached, the Rossiya coach decided it was time for a substitution. Pavel Kalugin reluctantly made way for Sergey Tatarenkov on the pitch. It wasn't a good day at all for Artur Uvarov. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day. After 61 minutes, the Rossiya coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Oleg Burlakov off the field. Roman Grudtsyn took his place. Viktor Klevin would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Kirill Kornaukhov entered the game for Rossiya as the match clock showed 63 minutes. 70 minutes into the game, Ukraina wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Yaroslav Shmatovalenko gave Fedir 'The Wall' Poklonskiy a quick hug as he left the field. 78 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Ukraina substitution. Łukasz Żur came on for Genadiy Lyashenko. After 81 minutes, Ukraina were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Veniamin Dolganskiy did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. As the match clock reached 82 minutes, Ukraina's organisation began to suffer due to a lack of experience. Down the middle came Sergey Tatarenkov, making a fantastic play that nearly had Rossiya take the lead after 83 minutes, but Mykhaylo 'Beton' Nikesha preserved the tie. Ukraina's Konstantyn Leschenko made use of his speed to get free of the defence, but he still couldn't get a shot off 86 minutes into the match. As the 87 minute mark approached, the Ukraina coach decided it was time for a substitution. Mykhaylo 'Beton' Nikesha reluctantly made way for Vytaliy Sharafutdinov on the pitch. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Ukraina, with 52 percent of the ball.

Ukraina's best player was Łukasz Żur. Konstantyn Nepiypivo turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Rossiya player was Vsevolod Troitskiy. Anatoly Anshukov on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 0.
