Braila 2 - 1 reduta

The crowd of 1198 turning up at LIVAS today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Silvano De Lucia was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Damiano Tove and Jānis Vešters. The match took place on neutral ground. Braila had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Păcurar - Buturoagă, Banţa, Voju, Stăncioiu, Gogioiu - Ghizdăreanu, Solokha, Ioaniţoaia, Puşcaşu - Botea.

A 5-5-0 alignment was the formation of choice for reduta. They fielded: Croitoru - Călina, Almeida, Šnýdr, Soldevilla, Arévalo - Krstić, Diniz, Rozpara, Temming, Toader -.

For their match strategy, Braila had decided to use their world class ability to counter-attack whenever possible. reduta clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, taking advantage of their brilliant level with that tactic. Some great play up the middle by Braila led to a chance for Dani Voju to score after 4 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. 5 minutes into the game, reduta seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate level of organisation. George Ioaniţoaia was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on! Slack defending gave Braila a chance to take the lead with 12 minutes played, but George Ioaniţoaia's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. 17 minutes into the game, reduta had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to weak. reduta had to make a substitution after 41 minutes. Rafael Soldevilla limped off the field and was replaced by Şiar İrdem. The visitors were very close to gaining the lead with a marvellous free kick after 42 minutes, but Radu Păcurar made a beautiful one-handed save. Braila mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 43 minutes, but Mihail Botea was unable to convert from short range. reduta's Ferdynand Rozpara got himself booked for a foul. Braila were forced into a substitution as Kondrat Solokha couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing Lucian Feher to come in off the bench. With Kondrat Solokha no longer on the pitch, Dani Voju took over free kick duty. Halftime score was 0 - 0. reduta claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of reduta was able to get his message across, and raised reduta's organisation to solid. After 46 minutes, the Braila coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Mihail Botea off the field. Marian Bertea took his place. Braila's Ion Puşcaşu had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 73 minutes having been played. Ioan Aldulea was the replacement. With 82 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Braila resulted in a counterattack that set Ioan Aldulea free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. 83 minutes in, reduta appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only weak. They were singing the praises of George Ioaniţoaia 84 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Braila. Tirso Almeida still has a lot to learn. For instance, he should know not to make half-hearted passes in front of Marian Bertea, who easily scored for Braila, making it 2 - 0. A well placed corner kick from Samuel Diniz was followed by Franklin Temming's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for reduta, the score now 2 - 1. 88 minutes in, Braila's Silviu Stăncioiu received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by reduta, with 53 percent of the ball.

Braila's best player was Marian Bertea. Dani Voju was a disappointment, however. Most important reduta player was Samuel Diniz. On the other hand, Ovidiu Călina's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 1.
