Braila 9 - 0 Bastile

The crowd of 861 turning up at Titans Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Staffan Orensjö was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Slobodan Mirović and . The match took place on neutral ground. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Braila. The following players took the field: Cimpoca - Muşat, Stăncioi - Sirigu, Kostadinović, Fontanete, Corteggiano, Rode - Roldós, Je'rah, Smolorz.

Bastile had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Carlos - Cohen, Boghiu, Falbierski - Răduş, Nistor, Sorescu, Jensen, Lenschow - Montin, Strachină.

It was an obvious ambition of Braila to use their titanic ability at attacking on the flanks. Bastile used their poor skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. An accurate cross from Eugenio Sirigu of Braila was met with a wonderful glancing header from Orest Smolorz, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 1 - 0. Braila's Hisham Je'rah increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 4 minutes. After 18 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Bastile found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to solid. 20 minutes into the game, Bastile seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak level of organisation. Adrien Rode slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Braila to 3 - 0 as Orest Smolorz finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. After 33 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and Adrien Rode gave the Braila supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0. By now, the players in Braila felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Braila's Marius Stăncioi increasing the lead to 5 - 0. 41 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Hisham Je'rah broke through, making the score 6 - 0 for Braila. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Marius Stăncioi got himself booked. The manager of Braila was not happy. 6 - 0 was the score after the first half. Braila had most of the ball, with 89 percent of possession.

The Bastile players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a passable organisation when the game started again. Ángel Fontanete increased the lead for Braila to 7 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! Sergio Roldós should probably have put his team up another goal after 65 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by José Carlos kept the visitors in the game. Braila increased the lead as Fabrizio Corteggiano struck to make the score 8 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Vasile Boghiu from Bastile a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 73 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 75 minutes in, Braila's Sergio Roldós received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Braila managed to extend their lead to 9 - 0 when Sergio Roldós cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Braila, with 89 percent of the ball.

Ognjen Kostadinović performed admirably for Braila. Ilie Cimpoca turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Bastile player was without a doubt Jari-Matti Montin. José Carlos on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 9 - 0.
