Lizards 0 - 7 Brann

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 35809 to The Lizards Den. Aitor Sasieta was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mario Vergouw and Dror Limor. Lineup: Meiniche - Johansen, Krog - Willatzen, Fiel, Langedal, Aakre - Puglisi, Thomasen, Eftimov.

They fielded: Ruju - Justad, van Lochem, Doñate, Ryneveen, Mézga - Bethencourt, Fabiński, Igueríbar, Marot - Sörensson.

Shaggy Lizards fielded a 2-4-3 lineup. For SK Brann, the formation of choice was 5-4-1. Lizards demonstrated their creative tactics on the field. It was an obvious ambition of Brann to use their titanic ability at attacking on the flanks. With 28 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Erik Sörensson put the ball away for 0 - 1. 29 minutes into the game, Lizards had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to inadequate. The referee showed Brann's Alain Bethencourt the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 33 minutes into the game, Brann seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to solid. Erik Sörensson received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 34 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Brann fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Brann had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead. Some fine movement on the left led to a Brann goal after 41 minutes, making it 0 - 3. Erik Sörensson was noted down as the scorer. This third goal completed a hattrick for Erik Sörensson. Juan Doñate could have added one to the visitors' lead if his free kick had gone just a little lower. It was obvious that Brann had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. Erik Sörensson of Brann took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 44 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 4. Erik Sörensson increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5. Halftime score was 0 - 5. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Brann, with 73 percent of the ball.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Lizards had solid organisation. A review of the gameplan helped Brann get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. After 68 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Bence Mézga a chance to increase the lead for Brann, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 6. After 71 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Lizards found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. 72 minutes into the game, Lizards seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. Bence Mézga could have put his team up another goal 76 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. Players in Brann heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. 82 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 7 as Bence Mézga finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. 87 minutes in, Lizards appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 0 - 7. Brann had most of the ball, with 74 percent of possession.

Most important Lizards player was Goran Eftimov. Per Langedal on the other hand, had a terrible day. Brann's top performer was clearly Erik Sörensson. Hessel Ryneveen turned in a dismal performance, however.
