43280 spectators had come to Zauberbude this cloudy day. Sverre Eide was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Thorsten Vüskens and José María Sahuquillo. The following players had been chosen: Gretka - Barigou, Boitor, Heitmann - Grill, Nešković, Đình Chiểu, Hechenblaikner, Dziuba - Hentsch, Zechenpreller.

Lineup: Feiner - Furtado, Nunes, Bastos Ferreira, Zwerger-Schuster, Squier - Plauk, Bantelmann, Hugentobler, Riedler - Šalakijskis.

BW Budenzauber entered the field in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, 12. FC Storchenfuß, chose to start the game with a 5-4-1 lineup. Storchenfuß took the lead 14 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. José Miguel Bastos Ferreira was the scorer. Always quick and a menace to his opponents, Volker Riedler was very close to getting through after 29 minutes, but he could only put the ball into the keeper's arms. Budenzauber tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.

The referee showed Storchenfuß's Robert Squier the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The referee signalled a penalty 49 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. Gvydas Šalakijskis knocked it home to make the score 0 - 2. The home crowd were delighted when Mikołaj Dziuba scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 - 2. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! After the ball was lifted in from the left, José Franco Nunes was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 71 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. Alexander Plauk wanted to play on, but the Storchenfuß coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 74 minutes into the game by Alexander Brentano. The coach of Storchenfuß was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 77 minutes, Ronny Heven came on for Jobst Bantelmann. Alexander Brentano became the new Storchenfuß captain. The match ends 1 - 2. Budenzauber had most of the ball, with 51 percent of possession.

Budenzauber's best player was Andy Hentsch. Zdzisław Gretka on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Storchenfuß player was Erik-Michael Feiner. On the other hand, José Franco Nunes's play was disheartening.
