Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 20567 at Pirates Bay today. Dragan Smetana was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bernie Bales and Levente Rill. They fielded: Bosetti - Hardt, Cortegiano, Ongetta - Rogalski, Conia, Rickly, Volhard, Ferrère - Paridaens, Brunisholz.

Lineup: Macrini - Geffroy, Autrix, Deichmann, Grünewald, Tranchant - Kondratyuk, Cunningham, Hirner - Arpaia, Todua.

FC Smirnoff Pirates started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Steinhausen Coyotes lined up in a 5-3-2 formation. It was an obvious ambition of Steinhausen to use their world class ability at attacking on the flanks. After a fine move down the middle Walter Paridaens nearly gave the home side a goal after 28 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Players in Steinhausen heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. A questionable penalty 42 minutes in gave the home side the lead, 1 - 0. The visitors' goalie didn't stand a chance as Walter Paridaens knocked the ball home. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Smirnoff, with 54 percent of the ball.

Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Steinhausen's Pietro Macrini was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. Nizar Diallo was given a chance to change things around. The bench was restless, and with 46 minutes passed Steinhausen's coach gave Corvin Pfeiffer the opportunity the player had been hoping for. Jonathan Geffroy reluctantly left the field. The crowd was silenced 53 minutes into the match as the visiting team's Ramaz Todua came in from the left, levelling the score to 1 - 1. 59 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Smirnoff substitution. Jens Lott came on for Frank Volhard. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, Jasper Brunisholz took over the role of being the Smirnoff captain. As the 63 minute mark approached, the Smirnoff coach decided it was time for a substitution. Phillip Ongetta reluctantly made way for Dominik Morks on the pitch. After 72 minutes, the Smirnoff coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Jasper Brunisholz off the field. André Lemoyne took his place. The Smirnoff captaincy was handed to Walter Paridaens. 76 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but François Grünewald, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Smirnoff's Knut Rogalski somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for Walter Paridaens, who struck for 2 - 1. Steinhausen were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. Ramaz Todua came close to levelling the score 81 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Jens Lott got himself booked. The manager of Smirnoff was not happy. The match ends 2 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Smirnoff, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Smirnoff's best player was Walter Paridaens. However, Dominik Morks made a disastrous appearance. Most important Steinhausen player was François Grünewald. Poul Deichmann on the other hand, had a terrible day.
