12000 punters turned up at Chelsea The Best Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Jim Gay was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jeffery Goossens and Doğuş Bilal. They fielded: Astley - Pike, Drury, Burdett, Heathcote - Dursley, Ritchens, Bailey, Marr - Stuart, Murphy.

Starters: Looney - Muhammad, Baber, Mclean, Brown - Soley, Hann, Spencer, Siggins - Ashern, Sheppard.

4-4-2 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Chelsea's Jeremy Marr was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box - Michael Ritchens managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 1 - 0 after 32 minutes. After 36 minutes Robert Sheppard made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Craig Soley who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 1. After 37 minutes, Jeremy Marr came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving Chelsea the lead. With 39 minutes played, Albert Bailey of Chelsea fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. With 41 minutes played, Craig Soley came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Phoenix. It emerged that Bert Siggins had hurt his right foot after 42 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. The replacement for the injured player was Sebastien Doel. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Chelsea, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.

Cheers filled the stadium as Marcus Burdett broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Chelsea. The score became 4 - 1 at 73 minutes into the game, when Chelsea were given a penalty which Marvin Murphy blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! 78 minutes in, Phoenix's Aaron Brown received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Chelsea solidified their lead at the 79 minute mark, as Kingsley Pike dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 5 - 1. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minute of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 5 - 1. Chelsea claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

Chelsea's best player was Jeremy Marr. Daniel Astley turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Phoenix player was without a doubt Sebastien Doel. John Looney on the other hand, had a terrible day.
