Horn 1 - 0 Pewsum

Due to an all-day shower, 28831 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Sporting Grounds. Raffaele Lang was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Witosław Graliński and Sune Ericsson. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players had been chosen: Grunt - Vidyapin, Dikov, Zernsdorf, Lemezina - Bronson, Baluev, Filkov, Murphy - Bonhof, Osorio.

Starters: Dubois - Casillas, Marconi, Henneghan, Caycedo - Stallworth, LeMaire, Bradshaw, Corona - Gregory, Kucherenko.

As the teams spread out over the pitch, it became clear that they would both be using a 4-4-2 formation today. Horn were relying on their magical ability to counter-attack. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Pewsum, taking advantage of their extra-terrestrial level with that tactic. Pewsum had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 3 minutes in when Alex Stallworth came up alone against Mathieu Grunt who managed a block. 33 minutes in, Horn appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only passable. Horn's Viktor Baluev's long shot really ought to have found the net 34 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target. After 39 minutes, the defensive line of Pewsum created a counterattack through the middle that gave James Marconi a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Juan Antonio Osorio acted with superior experience when, 41 minutes into the match, he predicted a pass, intercepted it and then finished off with a goal. 1 - 0 for Horn! Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Horn, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

The Horn players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. An equalising goal seemed certain after 48 minutes when Cole Gregory attacked down the left wing, but Mathieu Grunt just managed to make a save to keep the ball out of the net. With 49 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Horn resulted in a counterattack that set Lois Zernsdorf free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Pewsum were pushed back, and had many dangerous counterattacks. An impressive one came 56 minutes into the match, but Andrés Caycedo narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul. Adam Bonhof wanted to play on, but the Horn coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 89 minutes into the game by Karl Graber. The match ends 1 - 0. Neither team was controlling the possession at this point in the match, with the stats showing a 50:50 split.

Horn's best player was Mathieu Grunt. Karl Graber turned in a dismal performance, however. Cole Gregory performed admirably for Pewsum. However, José Refugio Corona made a disastrous appearance.
