5490 fans braved the pouring rain at Closett. Zoltán Kováts was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Tache Bordei and Flor Devlaeminck. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen: Brousek - Aalderen, Gentil-Lloch - Blich, Udommungkalanon, Challandes, Johansson, Ballinger - Harksen, Karastoyanov, Forsman.

Lineup: Genin - Cornea, Young, von Patow - Ravagnin, Salzgeber, Kryschak, Musazzi, Roschitz - Arrufat, Boßdorf.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. Fischmund broke through on the left 19 minutes into the game, with Mario Blich firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. After 25 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after Roberto Arrufat made it through the middle and struck home to make it 1 - 1. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, Jani Forsman scored for Fischmund putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 33 minutes. After 36 minutes, Giorgio Ravagnin suffered a slight injury to his left calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. It was 2 - 1 at the break. Fischmund claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

Adalbert Ballinger wanted to play on, but the Fischmund coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by Dino Lapčić. After 47 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Mario Blich might have resulted in another goal for Fischmund. However, Nicolaus Genin made a spectacular save. Cheers filled the stadium as Chitawee Udommungkalanon broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Fischmund. With 61 minutes played, the Violette coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Hans Herbert Heyck came on, Roberto Arrufat had to leave the fray. Fischmund put themselves up 4 - 1 when Jani Forsman broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Violette were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 65 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to Andre Salzgeber, who smashed it home to make the score 4 - 2. Mario Blich's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for Ernie Young. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball. The swift technical skills of Mario Blich were often too much for the tall but somewhat slow Ernie Young who was humiliated after 68 minutes. He'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief after the final shot went wide. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Fischmund coach let Jozo Drilo replace Radostin Karastoyanov after 70 minutes. The Fischmund players could smell victory in the air. César Gentil-Lloch wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Vicente Jorge Leão after 75 minutes. The referee announced 1 minute of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 4 - 2. Fischmund had most of the ball, with 51 percent of possession.

Fischmund's top performer was clearly Jani Forsman. Vilém Brousek turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Violette player was Manlio Musazzi. However, Hans Herbert Heyck made a disastrous appearance.
