Sport 3 - 2 Vélez

3940 spectators had come to Delfina Park this cloudy day. Josep Vial was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Linus Fegerl and Silvino Mingo Muñoz. The match took place on neutral ground. Starters: 力英 (Liying) - Kaart, Dahlberg, Balkouski, Nikam, Haljasorg - Ciuffo, Rychlewicz, Sacramento - Bartholdschuetz, Belső.

They fielded: Lozincă - Tschiltsch, Grossman, Gandega - Truchon, Varga, Marras, Pugejs, Echavez - Vintilescu, Simpson.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Sport Vélez II went for 5-3-2 while Vélez Sarsfield Campeón Clausura 2009 has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. For their match strategy, Sport had decided to use their divine (+2) ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Sport's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision! Illia Balkouski's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper. 6 minutes into the game, Andris Pugejs almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. With 7 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Sport resulted in a counterattack that set Rudolph Bartholdschuetz free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. After 10 minutes, Ram Nikam came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Sport the lead. Vélez's Garrit Tschiltsch was shown a yellow card after 15 minutes for slicing down an opponent. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Vélez, with 67 percent of the ball.

Jonata Ciuffo's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Rudolph Bartholdschuetz was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Sport. 2 - 0. Rudolph Bartholdschuetz knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 3 - 0 after 68 minutes. Tõnis Kaart behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 69 minutes as he gave the ball away to Claudio Echavez. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Vélez fought on and, after 75 minutes, Hilton Simpson was able to reduce the deficit to 3 - 1 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their player Garrit Tschiltsch reduced the lead to make it 3 - 2 after 77 minutes, following a pass from the right. Vélez had a chance to level the scores as Angelantonio Marras suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 minute beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 3 - 2. Vélez claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 69 percent.

Sport's best player was Rudolph Bartholdschuetz. Tõnis Kaart turned in a dismal performance, however. Emil-Ioan Vintilescu performed admirably for Vélez. On the other hand, Claudio Echavez's play was disheartening.
