50000 spectators arrived at R. C. Deportivo Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Derik Kröhnling was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Roy Danenberg and José Tiburcio Almeida. Starters: Troiano - Kabely, Smukała, Cornuault - Brizzi, Shalyga, Cimek, Azad, Walcott - Miolato, Rodenbeck.

They fielded: Kelayeh - Bola, Taffarel, Erbay, Nie Su, Velar - Collotto, Díaz-Aguado, Roquer, Picollà, Brogaard -.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for 5-5-0. Zafreño was determined to use their divine long shot ability. After 2 minutes, Zafreño's Camilo 'Eneldo' Collotto swiftly ran past Damien Cornuault and nutmegged the keeper! 0 - 1. It was obvious that the tactic of the day for Zafreño was to go for long shots, but in order to score they have to do better than the shooting attempt from Diego 'Cilantro' Velar after 5 minutes, which was a total failure. A penalty was awarded after 8 minutes, and Sérgio 'Vainilla' Taffarel made the most of his chance to put Zafreño up by another goal. 0 - 2 for the visitors. Zafreño's Camilo 'Eneldo' Collotto set up a perfect opportunity for Josep Enric 'Cardamomo' Roquer, but the latter failed to score. A slight injury to his left calf muscle meant Diego 'Cilantro' Velar had to leave the match early. It happened after 26 minutes. This gave Thomas 'Guindilla' La Fauce a chance to take to the field instead. After 33 minutes Zafreño showed the crowd a glorious passing play which put Phang 'Mostaza' Nie Su in a perfect shooting position. His low hard shot was just as glorious, placed just inside the keeper's right post making it 0 - 3. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Abdollah Azad from Deportivo a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 36 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! It was 0 - 3 at the break. Deportivo had most of the ball, with 51 percent of possession.

Deportivo's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 66 minutes into the match as Bartłomiej Cimek ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 3. After 70 minutes, Deportivo switched Artur Smukała with Roberto Amato, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. Deportivo needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 72 minutes Bartłomiej Cimek made way for Jon Kjellsson. With things not going too well on the field, the Deportivo coach made the decision to swap the positions of Roberto Amato and Roberto Miolato with 73 minutes played. Instead of playing a 50/50 ball into the penalty area, Zafreño's Josep Enric 'Cardamomo' Roquer skipped past the marking defender and passed the ball to Xose 'Tamarindo' Bola who finished it off from distance. The keeper could only stand and watch as the hard shot hit the underside of the cross bar, and in to make it 1 - 4 with 78 minutes played. Diego 'Cúrcuma' Díaz-Aguado wanted to play on, but the Zafreño coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 89 minutes into the game by Jean 'Azafrán' Rouget. Francesc 'Estragón' Picollà left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Tuomas 'Pimentón' Arponen was the replacement. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 4. Possession was split evenly between the teams.

The most dominating Deportivo player was without a doubt Kusi Rodenbeck. On the other hand, Piero Brizzi's play was disheartening. Most important Zafreño player was Hami Kelayeh. Thomas 'Guindilla' La Fauce was a disappointment, however.
