SIEMPRE 6 - 5 O2H

47625 fans braved the pouring rain at MARTIN PALERMO. Jordan Malasomma was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Şinasi Enise and David Simão Prioste. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. Starters: Schönbrodt - Veiga, Bäckert, Puche, Iliev - Weilenmann, Blanco, Petkov, Louwsma, van Dinteren - Pezzarossa.

The following players took the field: Tillier - Langhoff, Zeil, Pasquini, Orbocea, 丹海 (Danhai) - Jiménez Rota, Heidbrenner, Bandeira, Ban - Facciolo.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 4-5-1 formation while the visitors instead opted for 5-4-1. O2H were relying on their extra-terrestrial ability to counter-attack. The cannonball from 35 metres by Borislav Iliev of SIEMPRE was an impressive sight, but didn't make it into the net. SIEMPRE were very close to putting themselves one up after 40 minutes as Huub van Dinteren got through on the left. However, his concentration failed him, and he shot wide. Remus Ban's speed was clear to see after 41 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released Mariano Jiménez Rota who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 0 - 1. The crowd was on its feet 42 minutes into the match, as SIEMPRE's Christian Pezzarossa found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Neither team was controlling the possession at this point in the match, with the stats showing a 50:50 split.

Under heavy pressure after 71 minutes, the inexperienced O2H struggled to maintain their level of play. 85 minutes in, O2H's 李 (Li) 丹海 (Danhai) received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. At 86 minutes played, Ignacio Puche came in from the right with the intention of giving SIEMPRE the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. Oscar Alberto Pasquini had a good opportunity to give O2H the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Remus Ban was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 89 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. Possession was split evenly between the teams.

The O2H players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. Still tied after extra time, the crowd was buzzing as the teams prepared for a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.

SIEMPRE's Armin Schönbrodt looked nervous even as he was putting the ball on the spot. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. O2H's Oscar Alberto Pasquini coolly put the ball past Armin Schönbrodt. 1 - 2. The crowd was awed by Carlos Veiga's finely placed shot for SIEMPRE making it 2 - 2. O2H's Gerdt Zeil didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Armin Schönbrodt. The score remained 2 - 2. SIEMPRE's Christian Pezzarossa made no mistake. Pierre Tillier didn't have a chance. 3 - 2. O2H's Dan Orbocea was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 3! SIEMPRE's Vladimir Petkov showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 4 - 3. O2H's Remus Ban kept his cool as he faced down Armin Schönbrodt. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 4 - 4. SIEMPRE's Nunzius Weilenmann kept his cool as he faced down Pierre Tillier. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 5 - 4. O2H's Mariano Jiménez Rota was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 5 - 5! SIEMPRE's Ignacio Puche kept his cool as he faced down Pierre Tillier. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 6 - 5. O2H's 李 (Li) 丹海 (Danhai) looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 6 - 5. The match ends 6 - 5. SIEMPRE's top performer was clearly Christian Pezzarossa. However, Armin Schönbrodt made a disastrous appearance. Most important O2H player was Gerdt Zeil. 李 (Li) 丹海 (Danhai) turned in a dismal performance, however.
