Valcon 4 - 1 Merlo

1199 spectators arrived at Fortin Julian Arauz, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Donato Mastrota was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Roger Ulfbratt and Manos Kallitzakis. The following players had been chosen: Tkebuchava - Cărăuleanu, Torrecillas, Olchawski, Sălăvăstru - Wästerström, Chilavert, Rauf, Pitacho - Rosina, Narbardi.

Lineup: Lungescu - Leonian, Moris, Troisi - Morales, Viegas, Advalia, Biaggio, Bochini - Fuente Alba, Peralta.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 4-4-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. It was an obvious ambition of Valcon to use their divine (+4) ability at attacking on the flanks. Merlo saw most attack opportunities on the wings, taking advantage of their divine (+2) level with that tactic. With 3 minutes played Enrico Rosina almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. 9 minutes in, Merlo's Diego Javier Morales received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Attacking on the wings was the choice for Merlo, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. After 26 minutes, Merlo put themselves up 0 - 1, as José Javier Fuente Alba finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. It was obvious that Valcon had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. The crowd was on its feet 30 minutes into the match, as Valcon's Gogor Narbardi found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser. Players in Valcon heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, Bento Pitacho scored for Valcon putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 33 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Valcon enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

Enrico Rosina increased the lead for Valcon to 3 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! After 51 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and Jonas Wästerström gave the Valcon supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 1. Valcon's Cristian Cărăuleanu was shown a yellow card after 55 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Valcon's Gonzalo Chilavert had an excellent opportunity after 57 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! With 58 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Merlo resulted in a counterattack that set Hernán Biaggio free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Valcon put in a good effort on the right, but David Torrecillas saw his volley fly wide of the mark 62 minutes into the game. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 4 - 1. Valcon had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

Valcon's best player was Enrico Rosina. However, Cristian Cărăuleanu made a disastrous appearance. José Javier Fuente Alba performed admirably for Merlo. Pedro Clemente Leonian turned in a dismal performance, however.
