Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 24475 to Dombo Arena. Magne Andersen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Dimitri Derosset and Kamal Khawwas. They fielded: Carney - Delaney, Gormley, Kernaghan, Osman - Kearns, Cuddy, Cousins, Deacy, Creevy - Rossiter.

Lineup: Hariyantoko - Milala, Kwik, Supriyanto, Fredly - Siantoro, Purjianto, Ardhi, Marco, Rasyid - Ishak.

Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 4-5-1 formation. U-20 Indonesia preferred to finish off their attacks from a distance, taking advantage of their wretched level with that tactic. As the 1 minute mark approached, the U-20 Indonesia coach decided it was time for a substitution. Wicaksana Ardhi reluctantly made way for Rachmadsyah Sudiro on the pitch. U-20 Ireland nearly produced a goal as Gearóid Osman set up Scott Rossiter for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. However he put the shot narrowly wide. U-20 Ireland were very close to putting themselves one up after 32 minutes as Scott Rossiter got through on the left. However, his concentration failed him, and he shot wide. Coming in from the right, U-20 Indonesia had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 33 minutes, but Kasino Marco's attempt to finish was easily stopped. His teammates looked on in disbelief as an own goal by Yongki Rasyid changed the tally to 1 - 0 after 35 minutes. With 37 minutes played, U-20 Ireland's Jason Deacy almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by U-20 Indonesia, with 51 percent of the ball.

The U-20 Ireland players could smell victory in the air. Brian Carney wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for John Divine after 46 minutes. The coach of U-20 Ireland was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 46 minutes, Dean Kerry came on for Jason Deacy. Kelly Delaney wanted to play on, but the U-20 Ireland coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by Roy 'Connemara' O'Brien. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, U-20 Indonesia's Rahman Ishak was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. Ujang Ekayana was given a chance to change things around. With 46 minutes played, the U-20 Indonesia coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Gajah Wirentangun came on, Eliza Kwik had to leave the fray. With Eliza Kwik no longer on the pitch, Syiful Supriyanto took over free kick duty. Good work by the U-20 Ireland defensive line after 67 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found Roy 'Connemara' O'Brien alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. With 71 minutes played, U-20 Ireland put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Dean Kerry, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. A bit later, U-20 Indonesia's Kasino Marco easily reduced the lead to 2 - 1 after a misunderstanding in the home side's central defence. After 76 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Scott Rossiter might have resulted in another goal for U-20 Ireland. However, Saleh Hariyantoko made a spectacular save. U-20 Ireland almost scored after a swift counterattack 80 minutes into the game, but Quinn Kernaghan put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. 81 minutes into the match, the speedy Ujang Ekayana easily outpaced Barry 'Gorilla' Gormley, chipped the keeper and made the score 2 - 2. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! After 89 minutes, U-20 Ireland sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Scott Rossiter, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 3 - 2. The match ends 3 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to U-20 Indonesia, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

Most important U-20 Ireland player was Roy 'Connemara' O'Brien. However, Quinn Kernaghan made a disastrous appearance. U-20 Indonesia's best player was Kasino Marco. On the other hand, Rachmadsyah Sudiro's play was disheartening.
