Vertigo 2 - 4 Pewsum

The following players had been chosen: Batty - van Elst, Tasteridis, Raheem - Price-Twitchell, Alvarado, Eeckhout, Córdoba, Vandermeulen - Allenbach, Burman.

Lineup: Dubois - Rather, Richards, Schofield, Iverson - Huisbauer, Wittenberg, Tate - Leduc, Kucherenko, Gregory.

Vertigo Devils fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For TuS Pewsum, the formation of choice was 4-3-3. Vertigo saw most attack opportunities on the wings, taking advantage of their titanic level with that tactic. Pewsum clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, taking advantage of their extra-terrestrial level with that tactic. The referee showed Vertigo's Sven Allenbach the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The counterattack by Pewsum resulted in a free kick that Ismael Iverson bent under the crossbar - 0 - 1! 23 minutes in, Pewsum's Léon Leduc received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. 32 minutes into the game a free kick by Ismael Iverson found its way through the home side's poorly assembled defensive formation, making Pewsum's lead 0 - 2. Jonas van Elst behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 33 minutes as he gave the ball away to Cole Gregory. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Vertigo were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Vertigo, with 60 percent of the ball.

Pewsum were pushed back, and had many dangerous counterattacks. An impressive one came 47 minutes into the match, but Ismael Iverson narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul. The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs Jonas van Elst found it hard to get back into position. One of many good crosses from Vivien Vandermeulen on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by Steve 'Steep Pepper' Burman, who scored for Vertigo. 1 - 2 A well placed corner kick from Erotokritos Tasteridis was followed by Medard Eeckhout's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Vertigo, the score now 2 - 2. Given a free kick close to the byline, Pewsum tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let Nikolay Kucherenko slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 3, 73 minutes into the game. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Vertigo's Steve 'Steep Pepper' Burman was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 74 minutes. Xavier De Vuijst was given a chance to change things around. With 77 minutes played, the Vertigo coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Harrie Vandevorst came on, Jonas van Elst had to leave the fray. 78 minutes into the game, Pewsum had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. Medard Eeckhout made a superb strike after 82 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner. Pewsum showed their counterattack skill 83 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with Gaylord Schofield scoring uncontested for 2 - 4. With 85 minutes gone, Pewsum's Léon Leduc had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minute of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 2 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Vertigo, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

Vertigo's best player was Sven Allenbach. However, Harrie Vandevorst made a disastrous appearance. Most important Pewsum player was Marc Dubois. Gaylord Schofield on the other hand, had a terrible day.
