The crowd of 27361 turning up at Pirates Bay today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Alfonso Bikkersma was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Iancu Bucur and Jacinto Alvão. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. They fielded: Rossit - Hardt, Cortegiano, Morks - Rogalski, Rickly, Bossers, Volhard, Engel - Paridaens, Krähenmann.

The following players had been chosen: Deichmann - Grünewald, Autrix, Tranchant - Hirner, Kondratyuk, Cunningham, Goulding - Arpaia, Ewald, Flicker.

FC Smirnoff Pirates entered the field in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Steinhausen Coyotes, chose to start the game with a 3-4-3 lineup. Steinhausen saw most attack opportunities on the wings, taking advantage of their mythical level with that tactic. Smirnoff had to manage with a reduced squad after 33 minutes, as Küre Rickly got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action. Following a collision in the 33, Steinhausen's Michael Hirner complained of a damaged shoulder. Eventually, he forced himself to continue the match anyway. After the game, the most discussed event will probably be the penalty given after 38 minutes that gave the visitors the 0 - 1 lead. Despite the controversy, François Grünewald struck home the penalty, as cool as anything. With 42 minutes played, Steinhausen put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Gelson Ewald. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Brunhard Hardt tried lifting the ball over keeper Poul Deichmann. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Steinhausen, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

Content with how the game was proceeding, the Steinhausen coach let Pietro Macrini replace Poul Deichmann after 46 minutes. Michael Hirner wanted to play on, but the Steinhausen coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 46 minutes into the game by Émilien Chastagner. Always a threat, Knut Rogalski tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting Walter Paridaens who should have easily scored for Smirnoff, but the ball went wide. With 59 minutes played, the Smirnoff coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Jens Lott came on, Dominik Morks had to leave the fray. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by Jared Goulding. At last, Steinhausen's Vichi Flicker was able to backheel the ball in. 0 - 3. Smirnoff needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 75 minutes Knut Rogalski made way for Claude Ferrère. Steinhausen increased their lead after 76 minutes when Gelson Ewald broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 4, much to the home crowd's dismay. After 77 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Mauro Arpaia a chance to increase the lead for Steinhausen, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 0 - 5. Steinhausen claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

Smirnoff's top performer was clearly Danijel Krähenmann. Claude Ferrère was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Steinhausen player was without a doubt Amadeo Autrix. Émilien Chastagner on the other hand, had a terrible day.
