Pewsum 0 - 0 Steluta

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 59705 to Die Pewsumer Burg. Rait Karu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Umberto Poloni and Kristian P. Rambo. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. Lineup: Dubois - Casillas, Marconi, Caycedo - Corona, LeMaire, Bradshaw, Stallworth, Lundin - Gregory, Sairitupac.

Starters: Koturović - Baumgartners, Ozorio, Bertoa, van Basten - Mukherjee, Djédji, León, Al-Maamary, Meas - Starostenkov.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for 4-5-1. Some great play up the middle by Pewsum led to a chance for Alex Stallworth to score after 25 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. 29 minutes into the game, Arseniy Starostenkov was a hair's breadth away from giving Steluta the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by Marc Dubois saved the home team that time. Slack defending gave Pewsum a chance to take the lead with 32 minutes played, but Alex Stallworth's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. Many thought Andrés Caycedo ought to have been awarded a penalty 38 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Marko Koturović after a determined run through the middle. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Pewsum enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

Steluta's counterattacks created a good chance for Haroon Asaad Al-Maamary on the right after 55 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. After 62 minutes, the Steluta coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach. The match ends 0 - 0. Pewsum had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

Most important Pewsum player was Cole Gregory. José Refugio Corona was a disappointment, however. Steluta's top performer was clearly Arseniy Starostenkov. Marko Koturović on the other hand, had a terrible day.
