Mocambique 1 - 3 ASB

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Millerntor saw a crowd turnout of 4475. Elio Eijkenaar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Aloisius Gijzen and Wolfgang Dell. The match took place on neutral ground. Mocambique had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Soares Santos - Misuraca, Schrefler, Schapil - Koller, Sorahan, Kerbler-Wimmer, Firouzeh, Renzmann - Amurús, Gabitzer.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for ASB. Lineup: Merkle - Runk, Wicky, Árgyelán - Bagnacani, Pitzecker, García de Toledo, Clough, Howing - Lauri, Puntanen.

Joerg Howing's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert Ville Puntanen was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for ASB. 0 - 1. The visitors added to their lead 22 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by ASB's Barnabás Árgyelán slid just past the home keeper. 0 - 2. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when Guzmán Amurús tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. Oscar Merkle was too alert for that! Joerg Howing came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over Alexandre João Soares Santos but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by ASB, with 53 percent of the ball.

A drive down the left side allowed Ruedi Wicky to get in close and score another goal for ASB after 47 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when Brisco Kerbler-Wimmer scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 1 - 3. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Lamberto Bagnacani got himself booked. The manager of ASB was not happy. Helmut Pitzecker was, after 68 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper Alexandre João Soares Santos made the save. After 71 minutes, Mikey Sorahan had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for Mocambique with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The ball went miles over the bar. ASB claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.

Dietmar Gabitzer performed admirably for Mocambique. On the other hand, Orlando Misuraca's play was disheartening. The most dominating ASB player was without a doubt Raoul Lauri. Ruedi Wicky turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 3.
