3561 spectators had come to Rheinpark Stadion this cloudy day. Sascha Axthelm was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Angelo Wäffler and . A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Helvetia. Starters: Costella - Burgherr, Bessière - Lottenbach, Roca, Heuser, Buffon, Lefer - Eichmann, Kaser, Balsbach.

FC-CASTELLA had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Fiolet - Rosekrans, Boisseau, Handl - Tóth, Macé, Blervaque, Pépé, Pescina - Soulet, Millet.

Helvetia took the lead 10 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as Albrecht Balsbach elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. Coming through the middle Tobias Rosekrans almost scored the equaliser for FC-CASTELLA after 15 minutes, but Ciro Costella made an excellent save, tipping the awkward curled shot past the post. A great save by keeper Fabrice Fiolet after 18 minutes kept the visitors in the game after Kim Heuser struck from the left with a real cannonball. Julien Bessière of Helvetia was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. FC-CASTELLA needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 25 minutes Lucas Millet made way for Julien Batisse. Helvetia's Giorgio Buffon was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 27 minutes. Helvetia increased the lead as Lukas Eichmann struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. FC-CASTELLA's Julien Batisse proved that he's been around on a football pitch before, when he took advantage of a few moments of confusion in the opposition's defensive line and elegantly scored for 2 - 1. Albrecht Balsbach increased the lead for Helvetia to 3 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! 3 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Helvetia, with 53 percent of the ball.

Cheers filled the stadium as Angelo Kaser broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 1 to Helvetia. The players of Helvetia now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. The bench was restless, and with 60 minutes passed FC-CASTELLA's coach gave Yoshiyuki Fujimura the opportunity the player had been hoping for. Tobias Rosekrans reluctantly left the field. Cédric Macé had a couple of good opportunities to reply after getting through the middle of the opposition defence, but the home team's keeper Ciro Costella was simply unbeatable. FC-CASTELLA had to make a substitution after 72 minutes. Cédric Macé limped off the field and was replaced by Juan Antonio Barrera. With 74 minutes played, Julien Batisse had a fantastic opportunity to reply but his shot from the middle flew harmlessly wide of the goal. Helvetia solidified their lead at the 79 minute mark, as Angelo Kaser dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 5 - 1. Against a lesser team, Helvetia could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 80 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Julien Bessière knew he was in trouble after hacking down an opponent. Despite his pleading with the referee, the Helvetia player was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the game. Helvetia claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

The most dominating Helvetia player was without a doubt Albrecht Balsbach. On the other hand, Ciro Costella's play was disheartening. FC-CASTELLA's top performer was clearly Julien Batisse. Fabrice Fiolet on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 1.
