A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 3336 to Merowinger Hof. Jesús Nadal Amador was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . The match took place on neutral ground. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Spartans. Starters: Ferreira Nascimento - Lukkari, Forsing - Partalis, Assunção, Nakoneczny, Lato, Touch - Pirtskhalaishvili, Voiculescu, Guillot.

Hoppers had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players took the field: Lung - Boroevic, Sosa, Malavé, Ayers, Lecuna - Chaveiro, Baudy, Bourgeois, Flores - Grietnickas.

For their match strategy, Hoppers had decided to use their world class ability to counter-attack whenever possible. They were singing the praises of Erasmos Partalis 6 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Spartans. 8 minutes into the game, Spartans seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. An accurate cross from Erasmos Partalis of Spartans was met with a wonderful glancing header from Radu Voiculescu, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 2 - 0. Hoppers's Augenis Grietnickas was shown a yellow card after 18 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 29 minutes into the game, Spartans had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to poor. Radu Voiculescu sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from Samuel Assunção after 30 minutes of play, making the score 3 - 0. Good work by the Hoppers defensive line after 34 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found Clemente Malavé alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Radu Voiculescu had a fantastic opportunity to put Spartans up another goal 41 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. Hoppers had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 42 minutes, but Eliecer Sosa's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Spartans had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

During the break, Spartans's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to passable organisation. Spartans put themselves up 4 - 0 when Erasmos Partalis broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. The players of Spartans now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Joonas Lukkari could have increased the lead after 53 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Mao Touch should probably have put his team up another goal after 55 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Stelian Lung kept the visitors in the game. 61 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Gerald Guillot broke through, making the score 5 - 0 for Spartans. With 81 minutes played, the Hoppers coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Luka Garić came on, Xavi Boroevic had to leave the fray. Spartans claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

Spartans's best player was Radu Voiculescu. On the other hand, Percy Forsing's play was disheartening. Hoppers's top performer was clearly Clemente Malavé. Stelian Lung on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 0.
