Dark skies made the crowd of 1665 at X-TREM-TEAM Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Edward Bodtke was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mathieu Cochin and . The match took place on neutral ground. Hearts had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. They fielded: Riess - Huter, Müller-Stahl, Ratka, Kuiper, Kubitschke - Milanowitsch, Tater, Trampert - Schwertke, Jasny.

Ferdinandshof started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Le Bras - Szybkowski, O'Hara, Caudal - Bilzer, Vagasky, Segebrecht, Mayer-Vorfelder - Pereira, Zerpernick, Schlotmann.

Elmo Riess looked great 15 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' Siegmar Zerpernick. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 22 minutes allowed Luis Eduardo Pereira to score for Ferdinandshof. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. After 23 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Hearts found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. The home crowd was not impressed when David O'Hara came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 29 minutes. Ferdinandshof were now up 0 - 2. Given a free kick close to the byline, Ferdinandshof tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let Jarosław Szybkowski slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 0 - 3, 34 minutes into the game. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Ferdinandshof lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. The home crowd cheered when, after 40 minutes, Luis Eduardo Pereira's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Ferdinandshof had most of the ball, with 68 percent of possession.

During the break, Hearts's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation. Hearts's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 60 minutes gone, but Achim Kuiper's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. Hearts's Wolfgang Milanowitsch got himself booked for a foul. Ferdinandshof nearly produced a goal as Joackim Mayer-Vorfelder set up Wigberg Schlotmann for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. However he put the shot narrowly wide. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper Jimmy Le Bras and his left defence could have resulted in a goal for Hearts, but Wolfgang Milanowitsch's finish was way too lame. Volker Huter charged down the left and looked sure to score for Hearts 73 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. 82 minutes in, Hearts appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only weak. Possession in this half belonged to Ferdinandshof, who controlled the ball 72 percent of the time.

Most important Hearts player was Volker Huter. On the other hand, Adam Jasny's play was disheartening. Luis Eduardo Pereira performed admirably for Ferdinandshof. Siegmar Zerpernick was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 3.
