ASB 5 - 2 FCJ

The 2865 spectators at Betongold-World were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Ambrosio Escobar was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Okan Perker and Puck Lipperts. The match took place on neutral ground. ASB had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Merkle - Wäckerlin, Bertolotti, Wicky - Runk, Clough, Naugle, Pitzecker, Bagnacani - Puntanen, Krstić.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for FCJ. They fielded: Bechtel - Müntz, Alongi, Gjerde, Emsdetten - Zoppellaro, Knutsson, Kolthof, Gimple - Luiz, Parann.

Ruedi Wicky gave ASB the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0 It might be a while before the fans see ASB's Tobias Naugle again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 25 minute mark. He was replaced by Pablo García de Toledo. Coming through the middle Scipio Alongi almost scored the equaliser for FCJ after 29 minutes, but Oscar Merkle made an excellent save, tipping the awkward curled shot past the post. Scipio Alongi of FCJ seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 1 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by Teodor Gjerde. Against a lesser team, FCJ could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 36 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. ASB took the lead after 41 minutes as a result of Finley Clough's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 2 - 1. Halftime score was 2 - 1. ASB enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

Jovan Krstić increased the lead for ASB to 3 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! Finley Clough had a fantastic opportunity to put ASB up another goal 59 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. ASB increased the lead as Pablo García de Toledo struck to make the score 4 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The home crowd roared its approval when Teodor Gjerde missed a chance to reduce the lead from a penalty for FCJ after 63 minutes. Pelle Knutsson's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence. Pedro Afonso Luiz stunned the crowd with a brilliant counterattack from the left, giving FCJ the goal to make it 4 - 2. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of ASB to 5 - 2 as Guschti Runk finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. Oscar Merkle left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Dylan Goarin was the replacement. Possession in this half belonged to ASB, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

Helmut Pitzecker performed admirably for ASB. Lorenzo Bertolotti turned in a dismal performance, however. FCJ's top performer was clearly Pedro Afonso Luiz. On the other hand, Arne Bechtel's play was disheartening. The match ends 5 - 2.
