The 27587 spectators at Kyocera Park were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Stefan Montag was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Olivier Audren and Argentino Rodríguez. Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! fohlenpower will go to battle in a 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Lopes Garcia - Rautenfels, Moura, Dengo - Nadeau, Hermann, Dumitrascu, Gillette - Guinel, Hendricks, Şutic.

The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Blindpumpe formed up in a 3-5-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. The following players took the field: Bedoya - Wallaschek, Laut, Bast - Pörsel, Seikowsky, Mühlendamm, Norden, Unnerdörch - Paradiso, Himmel.

A formidable level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of fohlenpower. J. Hendricks enjoyed the sunshine and demonstrated his stunning technique over and over again. Blindpumpe took the lead 13 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. W. Himmel was the scorer. J. Hendricks of fohlenpower received a yellow card after 18 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. The referee showed Blindpumpe's M. Laut the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. fohlenpower were forced into a substitution as B. Hermann couldn't continue playing due to some rough treatment, so V. Stoyanov had to come in from the bench. As the captain was no longer on the field, G. Dumitrascu took over the role for fohlenpower. With the scoreboard showing that 40 minutes had been played, Blindpumpe nearly put themselves up another goal after K. Seikowsky came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. After 40 minutes, Blindpumpe's F. Norden burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. By now, the players of Blindpumpe felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. We may never know what G. Dumitrascu was thinking when he tried to pass the ball through a crowd of opponents. Luckily for him, Blindpumpe's O. Pörsel somehow missed the wide open net. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Blindpumpe would have 59 percent possession in this half was spot on!

fohlenpower's counter-attacks created a good chance for J. Hendricks on the right after 71 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. O. Pörsel came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over V. Lopes Garcia just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. After 81 minutes, Blindpumpe's N. Bast successfully broke up a pass with his face. Instinctively, he got up again only to unintentionally use his now-throbbing schnozz to break up a second pass. As he was carted off for a concussion check, C. Cederstolpe ran onto the field to take his place. fohlenpower had a great opportunity to score following a counter-attack after 83 minutes, but G. Rautenfels's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. Blindpumpe set the tempo, maintaining 63 percent of possession.

The most outstanding fohlenpower player was without a doubt V. Lopes Garcia. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because K. Gillette seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Blindpumpe's top performer was clearly M. Paradiso. Speaking of stinking up the place, C. Cederstolpe sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 0 - 2.
