Torrese 2 - 0 Greto

The local marching band welcomed a crowd of 28099 to San Clemente. Heiko Koch-Jägersberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Joel Elias Benzmüller and Beda Dessouslavy. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Torrese decided to go with a 3-5-2 formation. Starters: Vicente - Hutt, Wolfsberger, Kamenarov - Rolfsen, Stigkvist, Kahlbutz, Giæver, Kupčulík - Cajet, Landry.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Greto prefers a 4-5-1. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players took the field: Gabriel - Nyhus, Borriello, Paradiso, Sanchez - Chukichev, Fedeli, Alexandersson, Carotone, Medžinskas - Sever.

Down the middle came A. Sanchez, making a fantastic play that nearly saw Greto take the lead after 6 minutes, but V. Vicente preserved the tie. The referee showed Greto's B. Chukichev the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unfortunately for Torrese, J. Kupčulík was injured as the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. T. Vogelenzang replaced him. A. Alexandersson came close to putting the visiting team one up 16 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but V. Vicente managed to tip the ball over. With 35 minutes played, O. Cajet came in from the right with the intention of giving Torrese the lead, but his rocket of a shot could only rattle the crossbar. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Greto would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Torrese took the lead 48 minutes in, after B. Rolfsen's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 1 - 0. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 49 minutes on the clock after N. Wolfsberger's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Torrese player a yellow card though. With 60 minutes played, the Greto coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. F. Curth came on and B. Sever had to leave the fray. G. Paradiso was handed the Greto captain's armband. The Greto coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change their strategy. The Greto players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. After 60 minutes, Greto used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. Was it the hair gel? Was it a gift from the gods? Either way, the faithful won't care. Soaring like a Saturn V, G. Kamenarov somehow got his head on a N. Wolfsberger moonshot from the corner and buried it in the back of the net. What grace! What power! Plant the flag for Torrese, Neil Armstrong! The score is now 2 - 0. With 71 minutes played, G. Kamenarov could have brought this one home for Torrese as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Greto's A. Sanchez was shown a yellow card after 78 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Greto set the tempo, maintaining 55 percent of possession.

Torrese's top performer was clearly O. Cajet. I can't remember T. Vogelenzang ever having a worse night than he just had. A. Alexandersson performed admirably for Greto. Speaking of stinking up the place, S. Nyhus sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 2 - 0.
