Avanton 4 - 3 Keina

1509 spectators had found their way to King Stadium, despite the heavy rain. Anders Elnes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Sven-Erik Berg Briese. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Avanton decided to go with a 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Ulfmo - Raffin, Grenier, Saint - Jeanne, Lefebvre, Évain, Andolsi - Al-Mutawa, Al-Mansour, Tuama.

Our studio analysts were correct. Keina has taken the field in a 2-5-3 alignment. Starters: Chammem - Dinis, Jouve - Kilpatrick, Mpouldetidis, Mouchel, Batard, Bošković - Grönqvist, Morel, Inclimona.

This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when J. Kilpatrick slipped through the left defense to come up alone against S. Ulfmo, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning-fast reflexes. A. Saint looked around after sending his opponent to the ground to realize he was the last man. That's called denial of a goalscoring opportunity, and the Avanton player was sent off after 7 minutes. Unfortunately for Keina, T. Mpouldetidis was injured as the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. A. Guillaud replaced him. The slippery field made speedy runs nearly impossible, which hampered F. Évain in particular. After 19 minutes, Keina's M. Grönqvist made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. G. Morel's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and this time was no different as he broke free of his man to send an on-target through ball to M. Grönqvist who knocked it in for Keina. 0 - 2! 0 - 2 was the score after the first half. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Keina had 54...54 percent possession. AH AH AH!

Avanton needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes F. Évain made way for C. Gastrin. A spectacular Avanton effort on the right resulted in a goal at the 70 minute mark by M. Grenier, making the score 1 - 2. The bench was restless, and with 70 minutes gone Avanton's coach gave F. Pierre the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. H. Andolsi reluctantly left the field. With a shot lofted in from just outside the penalty area 77 minutes in, C. Gastrin of Avanton evened the score to 2 - 2. A. Guillaud will have Excedrin Headache number 5 after heading home the hard corner kick from M. Mouchel after 79 minutes of play. I'm sure that making the score 2 - 3 will assuage him a bit, though. Some hard work on the right gave Avanton a wonderful opportunity to level the score after 83 minutes, and H. Al-Mutawa stepped up to the challenge, netting the 3 - 3 goal. M. Grenier had a difficult time moving the ball with his trademark elegance; the muddy surface was clearly affecting his technique. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to A. Al-Mansour, but the Avanton player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 4 - 3! Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Avanton would have 64 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Avanton's best player was F. Pierre. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because N. Raffin seemed to stumble all over the pitch. G. Morel performed admirably for Keina. Speaking of stinking up the place, N. Jouve sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 4 - 3.
