Round of 16 Writeup

What an amazing round! Guess the following match up.
The tortoise and the hare.
The young upstart and the experienced winner.
The battle between the campers.
The two who have never backed off.
The strongest spear and the strongest shield
The battle of the luckiest
The controversial match
The face off between EXes

Golden Kakis - Young Tigers (362632211)

Kakis has a very old and wily manager in yclau he has been around since 28-01-2004, whereas Tiger_Clan only took control over Young Tigers(then known as Orchad FC) on 09-06-2008. Looking at their league progression, we can compare Kakis to a tortoise and Tigers to a hare, when Kakis spent 12 seasons in the starting divison of IV.32, and Tigers took 10 seasons to promote to Sleague.

These two teams have never met before this match, thus both teams are pretty much unknown.
This season in the cup, Kakis have claim the scalp of well known teams such as Akodo, BDSM and QUT FC. They put out a mean 288 hatstats in the last round. However, Tigers is the anti-giant killer, who took down both mosue and koon kings in recent weeks after their giant killing exploits.

Will the tortoise has it's day just like in the fable or will the hare take revenge?

Fafane Club - Tanglin Winners FC (362632212)

The young upstart and the experienced winner.

It seems not just too long ago where Tanglin was an up and rising star who won the Cup in 13 seasons since inception. They are another fast riser like Tigers, and is among one of the few to have won the cup in Singapore.

Fafane on the other hand is only into their 10 season, meaning that they weren't even formed when Tanglin raised the cup previously. Fafane was in II.3 for the previous 2 season, but suffered a relegation last season. Their latest win in the cup came with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Merlion Angkor who is an ex finalist in the cup.

Tanglin however, have not faced any real challenge in their cup run so far. Their manager, xyart, has came out to annoucne that their focus will be on the cup in response to the double 6 pointer for the S-League title. SkyfireX has came out to scoff at those remarks, brushing them off as mind game. "The cup is an intoxicating drug, but not winning the league will leave Xyart empty. He will not give up either one easily."

Fafane posted a mean 316 hatstats at home, whereas Tanglin reached a lazy 350 hatstat away.
Who will prevail? The young upstart or the experienced winner?

Siegmund United - Bass-Reflex (362632213)

I bill this as the game between two campers. They aren't the typical campers who stay in low divisions and enjoy home advantage ala the (in)famous Uchihaha clan.

However, both teams tend to stay in a league for a period of time before making a rush up the division. Siegmund spent 10 seasons in div IV, and took 3 seasons to reach div II, and is currently leading the series.

Bass is similar in spending 9 seasons in div IV, and then having a quick double promotion to II.3. They then spent another 6 seasons there, before moving up to S-League where they have stayed since.

As such, we can see that both managers are patient managers who will only do something they are confident of.

This is the 1st match (going from top down) where the home team(354) has posted a higher hatstats than the away team.(288)

Who will win the battle of the campers?

Batavia Cavaliers - Robbie Football Club (362632214)

The two who had never backed off(relegated).

Both teams have not suffered a relegation ever. This stat gets a bit more impressive when you realise that that means Robbie has never relegated in 25 seasons of gameplay. It also means that he's another camper like the 2 before-mentioned.:p

Batavia's manager is another young upstart in Seabiscuit who is also only into their 10th season. Both teams generally approach each game the same way not mixing things up much. I mean, why bother changing something that works? Not relegating ever is a good reason not to change.

An interesting thing to note is that Batavia is currently enjoying better luck in the cup, just edging their previous games, whereas Robbie has bee complaining a lot about the match engine messing with him in this week.
Who will the luck favor among the never relegated teams next week?

jafjfqaoi - Pudgy Penguins (362632215)

The battle of the infamous "Strongest Spear vs Strongest Shield"

Jafjfqaoi had the overall best attack rating in the previous round (with a 17 yo tdf in attack no less) whereas Penguins had the best defense. This speaks of an epic match up.

Jafjfqaoi has their roots back in Season 4, however, their highest ever division was "only" division II. They are a very well known team who has kept up to date with the changes and is more than ready to make their mark.

Penguins on the other hand is a relative newbie, starting back in Season 12, they have won honors such as qualifying for round 3 as SG NT manager, winning the league and cup double too. They are currently on a rebuilding phase with a bunch of youngsters marshalling the midfield.

You can't win anything with kids. Or can you?
The strongest spear and the strongest shield, who will remain?

CharlesCheesePie - UT Polar Bears (362632216)

The battle of the luckiest.

No offense to either teams, but the stats do not lie. (or do they) Both teams posted ratings of below 300(283 for CCP and 253 for Polar Bears). Being the 2 weakest winners of the previous round, they must be happy to face each other as on paper that gives both the best chance of progressing.

With that said, both teams are in div II and not doing too badly(4th and 2nd place), so it might just be that they have no need to do their best in the cup.

Who knows what is the truth? On paper at least, this is probably the best draw for both teams, and the luckier one will get into the quarter final!

Blackburn Rovers Fan - Arrogancae [matchid=362632217]

A match steeped in controvesy immediately after the fixtures were announced. Ravary, our incumbent NT manager has came out in the open asking truefan to pic the match in return for a callup for a national prospect. That is bribery of the highest order!

Not just a pic bribe being offered, Ravary lives up to his mispelled team name, stated that the previous match of winning 9-2 was as easy as a cup round 1 match. Truefan, not to be outdone, stated that all the teams he faced so far were so easy that he can pic and beat them.

Both managers are active in denoucing their previous opponents, and openly suggesting colluding a match. There needs to be an investigation! Both teams have met in the cup 2 seasons ago with Blackburn running out as 3-1 victors.

Will Arrogancae be out for revenge? Will they really pic? Will they have a tough game? Will Arrogancae win their "round 2" match? Or will Blackburn PIC to an easy victory? We wait to see.

Shining Lights - Kim Tae Hee FC (362632218)

Faceoff between the ex u20/NT managers.

Devilanche has been the NT manager in the past, and won a cup, whereas Hazeline was an U20 manager long ago. Hazeline is also the "oldest" manager left in the cup, starting back in season 3.

It's a tough match to call between 2 experienced and well matched opponents. KTH is pretty much all conquering, only dropping points in 1 league game, whereas SL has been struggling a little in the league.

As the saying goes, becareful of a wounded animal, with home advantage and nothing else to fight for, it is danagerous to face SL at the moment. On the other hand, KTH will have to juggle winning their league and doing well in the cup.

This is a battle between 2 very experienced managers, what will the result be?
