Felge Elation

Felge, manager of Royal Pearl of London in II.4 (54336) won the Wozniak Cup last season, and has answered a few questions for HT-Press.

You acquired your first team in February 2009, in Germany and have risen to Division IV among a shade under 20,000 active users, and acquired your English 2nd team in July 2013 (approx 10 weeks after they became available) and you are currently ranked 18th of approx 2,800 users. Please tell us a little about yourself and what attracted you to set up a second team here?

I am 30 years old and from the beautiful city of Hamburg in northern Germany. For 20 years, a lot has been about football for me - on tv, stadium or virtual manager games. When I think of football, I think of passion and emotion, I think of many great events and the history of this sport. We have the proud Brazilians with their 5 titles, many battles with Italy or the Netherlands, Wembley, Greece as European champions and so many other great things that made this sport so great. Of course, one thing should not be missing from the history of football - England! In addition to German football I am very interested in the English Premier League, so my decision for a second team in England was very quickly clear. The atmosphere in England fascinates me. From Highbury, via Anfield to Old Trafford and players like T. Henry and R. Giggs to coaches like Mourinho and Guardiola. Everything you want in football, you will find it in England. That makes me happy! :-)

I have a disability and in 1999 I was in a special school for children with that. A player from Mainz 05 visited us in school and he tell about football und we play football with him. His name was called Jürgen Klopp. I love that guy, really. He is a great personality, a lovely guy and a great manager. I would never forget that experience and feel a great connection to him - and to Liverpool. :)

Last season you won the Craig Wozniak Cup after being knocked out in R6 of the English Cup. Aside from the scrappy victory in week 7, you won all your games with a seemingly comfortable scoreline, including the final against a long shots side who had more possession. (615597723). Was it as easy as it looked on paper?

The knockout in R6 of the national cup was very hard, but only because of that I was allowed to participate in the Craig Wozniak Cup. The first games in the Craig Wozniak Cup were very easy, I could mostly complete my training program. The first really good opponent was Stowmarket Scumbags, who I met in the semi-final (615513320). The fact that I won this game and entered the final was due to the same luck I had in the cup final. I am absolutely happy to win the cup, but I also had the support of the matchmachine. - In the final I tried to put everything into midfield and win and somehow use my chances. I didnt really believe it, just hope. I think, only on that day could I win the trophy.

Please tell us about your team name "Royal Pearl of London" and why you chose this?

My first team is called "Perle Hamburg" (engl. "Pearl Hamburg") and has its origins in a song about the city of Hamburg called "Hamburg, meine Perle" - (engl. "Hamburg, my pearl") - as well as in the stadium at Hamburger Sport sing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR2rTc0rjo0)
A "pearl" sounds very royal, that fits very well with london.

Your manager page lists 5 Real Life teams that you feel some allegience towards.Hamburger SV is one of these and your first team name-checks this club. They've not been German Champions since 1983 but are a current Bundesliga side. What's been going on?

I'm a football fan, first the sport and then the club. It is difficult to describe, but in the first place I support the local club. My attachment to a club is strong, but not as deep as others.
In Hamburg many mistakes have been made in recent years, high debts, many investments and still not successful in sports. But I hope for better times. This year we have a lot of new talents (Jann-Fiete Arp) and even though we are currently 17th, the team plays a lot better. I hope. ;-)

Please could you tell us about the last book you read and whether you'd recommend it?

That could be difficult. I mostly read sports news and other news, watch documentation on TV and travel a lot .... but books, I do not really read. :)
Do you have a favourite building or architectural design?

Not really, certainly there are many beautiful buildings - but I think nature can do more than humans. In September I was in the USA, I was standing at the Grand Canyon and the feeling to see that is indescribable.

I dont have favorite buildings, then rather cities that made a great picture in their beauty. San Francisco, New York, London with all their culture and history :)

Please tell us your thoughts about the new SE engine that is being introduced this season, and which changes you like the most and why?

I have not dealt with it so far. I definitely like the versatility and the expansion of the playable possibilities.

I have a long-term concept, my players are 28/29 years old and have been playing together since 2014 and have played over 1000 cup- and leaguegames together. I can not just change that. My attachment to the players is too big.

I have to go on this way now and I think that many will go on like this for now.

What are you plans for xmas, and what are the best presents you've ever gifted & received?

1 week before Christmas I traveled with my girlfriend to London for a few days. After that I was with my family in southern Germany and today I'm back at work.

I think that is very different. I am usually very happy about weekend trips or other practical things for everyday life. This Christmas there was a weekend trip to Manchester in January, and lots of useful stuff for my new apartment ... and IKEA coupons! :D

Please provide us a link to utube or vimeo to one of your favourite of all time tunes, and something you liked from 2017 as well?

Phil Collins - Against All Odds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OiV_5kEt6A)

Ed Sheeran - Perfect (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vv-BfVoq4g)

What are your aspirations for your hattrick teams during 2018, in terms of achievements and training?

I want to stay in league 2 again this season, which will not be easy because I have to play the first 2-3 games without a goalkeeper. We will see, have a strong attack and a good midfield ... should be possible. :)

There are now 3 weeks of wing training and 5 weeks of playmaking training is planned. After that open end passsing training.

Is there anything else I should have asked that you'd like to answer?

No, everything is fine. I am glad that there are not any more questions, my English is too bad for larger conversations. : D
