Alpways 3 - 5 Lions

The spectators didn't look too happy about the constant raining at the stadium today. The rain was pouring down, it was the kind of weather favoured by strong players who stick to simple football. For players possessing of speed or technical skills, the day really was as grim as for everyone else. The following players took the field: Francese - Flores, Bras - Rönntorp, Tuqiri, Saywell, Becker, Inţa - Ruetz, Karancı, Bard.

Lineup: Jumabaev - Salgado, Chutkerashvili, Reinl - Magnin, Al-Khudory, Leurs, Plaza, Sher uulu - Dalen, Hons.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. Alpways took a divine creative approach on the field. Alpways fans held their breath as Lawrence Bard scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 1 - 0! The visitors' Osvald Dalen was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 28 minutes. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, Lawrence Bard scored for Alpways putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 34 minutes. Erkin Sher uulu made a run for the goal 36 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end. 2 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Alpways, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Lions's right side looked dangerous 54 minutes in, but Massimiliano Francese made a good save on Héctor Ariel Magnin's hard shot to the top corner. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Orlando Reinl from Lions a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 56 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 58 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but Massimiliano Francese got the best of it, blocking the shot from Waldemar Hons. Massimiliano Francese wanted to play on, but the Alpways coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 67 minutes into the game by Petri Nousiainen. Chester Tuqiri left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 69 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Bahadır Uçuk was the replacement. Lions needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 70 minutes Erkin Sher uulu made way for Akniet Fazilet Uulu. The referee showed Lions's Givi Chutkerashvili the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. David Becker should probably have put his team up another goal after 71 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Mahmut Jumabaev kept the visitors in the game. Tiberiu Inţa managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but Thomas Rönntorp was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. After 74 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after Osvald Dalen made it through the middle and struck home to make it 2 - 2. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Alpways coach decided it was time for a substitution. Hasan Kemal Karancı reluctantly made way for Alessandro Kuenheim on the pitch. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 76 minutes into the match left Lions's Waldemar Hons completely free to score. 2 - 3 for the visitors. 76 minutes in, Lions's Osvald Dalen received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. After 77 minutes, Lions's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. With 78 minutes played, Alpways's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to Edward Saywell he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 3 - 3. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. After the regular 93 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. Alpways enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

A review of the gameplan helped Lions get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. Lions took the lead 96 minutes into the game, making the score 3 - 4 after some elegant movement down the middle. Duarte Salgado was the scorer. The visitors' Alan Leurs took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 97 minutes into the match. 3 - 5 for Lions. The match ends 3 - 5. The most dominating Alpways player was without a doubt Lawrence Bard. Petri Nousiainen on the other hand, had a terrible day. Osvald Dalen performed admirably for Lions. However, Mahmut Jumabaev made a disastrous appearance.
