ASM 7 - 2 PSG_E

Around 174 brave souls made it through the pouring rain to the muddy field of LE PERTHUIS to see the game - although it might be more of a swim meet than a soccer match. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. The lucky starting players: Philippe - Allain, Ould Fella - Praud, Fanget, Bouhelier, Benjamin, Basset - Girard, Louçã, Naldini.

The coach fielded the following talents: Escrig - Youssfi, Aucejo - Cabelo, Quesada, Goicoechea, Urrea Palafox, Tarruella - Suárez, Soto Medina, Ipas.

The teams stopped and stared at each other - it was like they were looking in a mirror, since they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. ASM displayed their ability to play creatively. PSG_E took a creative approach on the field. With 6 minutes played, the home side made it all the way up the right wing to score. Marc Praud supplied the finish, receiving the ball on his chest and knocking it in for 1 - 0, giving his team the lead. ASM's Vitorino Filipe Louçã showed some of his reported potential with that goal. It's 2 - 0 due to a clinical finish after a pass through the middle that even impressed some of the senior squad players that showed up here today. ASM's Piermarco Naldini showed off his speed to get free of the defense, but he still couldn't get a shot off after 26 minutes. ASM solidified their lead at the 28 minute mark, as Thibaud Fanget maneuvered the ball through the central line of defense and pounded in the 3 - 0 goal. After 33 minutes, PSG_E scored as Gerardo Tarruella's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by Fructuoso Cabelo. 3 - 1. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the indirect free kick attempt by PSG_E after 35 minutes was easily sniffed out by the defenders. That was a textbook example of how to defend a free kick - the attackers were left with no real options. ASM's Marc Girard left the field after 36 minutes having twisted his hand in a collision, causing a slight injury. The player that took his place was Christophe Dupuis. Things were going to get worse for the visiting boys. Stéphane Benjamin willed his way through the central defense with 37 minutes played, and scored to make it 4 - 1, securing the lead. 4 - 1 was the score after the first half. The game was a stalemate so far, with possession split evenly between the teams.

When the clock struck 46 minutes, the PSG_E coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Emilio Cano came on and Alvar Ipas had to leave the game. After 46 minutes, PSG_E substituted Argider Suárez for Teodor Fitó, hoping for a quick impact on the field. It was group hug time yet again, when ASM pushed ahead to 5 - 1. Piermarco Naldini was the center of attention, having moved deftly through the middle to find the perfect opening, not hesitating when he did. PSG_E fought on as if the game were a Cup final, and after 60 minutes Ignacio Soto Medina was able to reply with the 5 - 2 goal. He connected to a flat cross from the right, flicking it in on the volley. ASM's Thibaud Fanget extended the home team's lead to 6 - 2 with a penalty kick after 66 minutes had been played. The goalie should probably have stopped that one, the ball rolling right under his arm. 72 minutes into the match, the visitors' defenders misjudged the movements of ASM's Thibaud Fanget through the middle, leaving him undisturbed in front of their keeper. At this point, the 7 - 2 goal was just a formality. Thibaud Fanget was jumping for joy as he was noted down for a hattrick. At the final whistle, the score is 7 - 2. PSG_E pleased their coach greatly, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

Marc Praud performed especially well for ASM - he could be a candidate for the senior squad one day. Piermarco Naldini showed he still has a lot to learn. The coach of PSG_E was especially pleased with Ignacio Soto Medina after the game. Gerard Escrig needs a lot of extra training, however.
