Selects 6 - 4 YMORF

It had been a rainy day, and no more than 26 were scattered around Selects-Wiese to see the game. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. Starters: Akouss - Mano, Vanié - Kouakou, Kanté, Yeboah, Fofié, Apata - Claret, Kamara, Nago.

The coach fielded the following talents: Ben-Yaacov - Akselrod, Lefort - Alal, Elituv, Svyatenko, Lancry, Geffen - Salmawy, Biton, Tiran.

The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. YMORF decided to attempt to play creatively. You can't help but feel a little sorry for the boy supposed to be marking N'Sieni Kouakou. Using his speed, he circumvented the defenders and sent a great pass to Ben Apata who nailed it in for Selects. 1 - 0! It's goal number 2 for Selects, after Yoan Vanié brought down a ball from the left and flicked it home. The away team has some work to do. There was great disorder inside the 18-yard box following the corner, with Hezi Lancry wasting a great opportunity to score. At last, YMORF's Malik Salmawy was able to shove the ball in. 2 - 1. The home supporters were distressed by the events of minute 28. The visiting team leveled the score after some team play on the right that was capped by a clever juke from Raanan Alal, who beat both his marker and the keeper. 2 - 2. The referee noted down 2 - 3 as the new score after 35 minutes. YMORF's Malik Salmawy had cut through the central defense and chipped home a goal, right over the keeper. Had it not been for the home team's left side defenders after 36 minutes, Jean-François Lefort would have surely scored to put YMORF up another goal. After 40 minutes, N'Sieni Kouakou dashed through the middle and left the opposing defenders behind to score the 3 - 3 goal. It was 3 - 3 at the break. In this half Selects were the most energetic, keeping the ball to themselves for 55 percent of the time.

Selects's Zougou Nago showed off his speed to get free of the defense, but he still couldn't get a shot off after 58 minutes. After 62 minutes Selects's Orson Kamara won some bragging rights for the schoolyard. He found his way through the guests' central defense, and put the ball in for 4 - 3 - right between the legs of the keeper! Gaoussou Yeboah had a solid opportunity to put Selects up another goal after 63 minutes, but he sent it wide. Things were going to get worse for the visiting boys. Gaoussou Yeboah willed his way through the central defense with 72 minutes played, and scored to make it 5 - 3, securing the lead. After 75 minutes, YMORF reduced the score to 5 - 4. Gennady Elituv had some fun there, first beating the keeper to the ball and then taunting him afterwards! After 76 minutes, Selects scored as Ben Apata's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by Orson Kamara. 6 - 4. That's it! The score is 6 - 4. Selects pleased their coach greatly, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.

Yoan Vanié performed especially well for Selects - he could be a candidate for the senior squad one day. Emilien Akouss showed he still has a lot to learn. YMORF's Hezi Lancry had a great game and was congratulated by his teammates. This boy could be going places! The coach took Nissan Ben-Yaacov aside after the game, telling him it is okay to have a bad day on the field as long as you keep trying.
