MarsCity 4 - 3 MFCC

1051 spectators had come to La Beaujoire this cloudy day. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Pavle Laušević and . The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and MarsCity formed up in a 4-3-3 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. Lineup: Rateau - Guiu, Marizcurena, Delavier, Deneux - Cabaspre, Lagrange, Mauve - Isca, Csarman, Amirkhanlu.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and MFCC prefers a 2-5-3. Let's see how this plays out for them. They fielded: Colangiulo - Mantur, Champenois - Valenzi, Simchi, Felloni, Banc, Maës - Mušálek, Taronger, Euverman.

Using their extra-terrestrial counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for MarsCity today. MarsCity took the lead 12 minutes in, after Marcel Csarman's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 1 - 0. The visitors wouldn't quit and after 21 minutes, Chezi Simchi evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1. MFCC's Pavel Mušálek could have put the guests one up 26 minutes in after chasing a through ball from the right, but David Rateau was as quick as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. With 36 minutes played, MarsCity's Clément Lagrange received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. Some great play up the middle by MarsCity led to a chance for Mohsen Amirkhanlu to get the go-ahead goal with 38 minutes played, but the shot hit the crossbar. With 39 minutes played, MFCC's Vincent Maës pulled up limping after a savage, cowardly challenge. But he's not yet ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. He's staying in to play on. The valiant never taste of death but once! The visiting Ivar Euverman was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 40 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. After 42 minutes of play, David Mauve evened things up for MarsCity with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2. Halftime score was 2 - 2. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that MarsCity had 51...51 percent possession. AH AH AH!

MarsCity's Mohsen Amirkhanlu tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. After 48 minutes, MarsCity were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the kicker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his teammates a bit by surprise. Marcel Csarman did manage a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball out of bounds. Clément Lagrange gave MarsCity the 3 - 2 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! The visitors didn't give in and, after 65 minutes, Julien Champenois got through the home side's central line of defense, rolling in the leveling goal to make it 3 - 3. Stefano Isca's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 75 following a run up the middle gave MarsCity the 4 - 3 lead. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that MarsCity would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Stefano Isca performed admirably for MarsCity. Speaking of stinking up the place, David Rateau sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Most important MFCC player was Ivar Euverman. I can't remember Tiziano Felloni ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 4 - 3.
