MOUN 2 - 1 taponnat

1161 spectators had found their way to MOUN Arena, despite the heavy rain. Feliks Machulik was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Wolf Tieschowitz and Simon Roth. The following players had been selected: Tormo - Le Bras, Chevalier, Vallet - Bertolo, Bienvenu, Rivasseau, Azevedo Rodrigues - Chaperón, Dobány, Mounier.

Lineup: Van Kemseke - Lemanowicz, Jean, Ahinko, Becerra, Auvinet - Dlubáč, Görnandt, Vidal - Zacharidis, Pereira.

Young Boys de MOUN fielded a 3-4-3 lineup. For taponnat, the formation of choice was a 5-3-2. taponnat's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their world class ability to break on the counter whenever possible. Many thought Aurélien Rivasseau ought to have been awarded a penalty 8 minutes into the match, as he went down trying to beat Adolphe Van Kemseke after an attack through the middle gave him the one-on-one opportunity. MOUN were very close to putting themselves one up with 18 minutes gone as Nicolas Bertolo got through on the left, but a lapse in concentration sent the ball wide. With the clock showing 19 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of taponnat resulted in a counter-attack that was smoothly brought under control by Sebastián Alejandro Vidal in the center of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. With 20 minutes played, taponnat's Karol Lemanowicz pulled up limping after a savage, cowardly challenge. But he's not yet ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. He's staying in to play on. The valiant never taste of death but once! The head of Nicolas Bertolo connected with a beautiful corner kick after 29 minutes. He wasn't shooting, though, but rather passing to Johann Chaperón of MOUN who buried the shot for 1 - 0. Florian Chevalier should probably have put his team up another goal after 32 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by Adolphe Van Kemseke kept the visitors in the game. János Dobány slipped and slid in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. 41 minutes into the game taponnat managed a counter-attack, but Félix Pereira took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. 42 minutes into the game, MOUN's János Dobány tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that MOUN had 64...64 percent possession. AH AH AH!

The boggy field disrupted the game, especially for technical players like Sebastián Alejandro Vidal who couldn't move the ball with his usual delicate touches. 49 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as János Dobány ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 2 - 0 for MOUN. With 52 minutes played, Johann Chaperón could have brought this one home for MOUN as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. After 53 minutes, the defensive line of taponnat created a counter-attack through the middle that gave Stratis Zacharidis a good look at goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. taponnat mounted an inspired counter-attack down the right wing after 59 minutes, but Ludwig Görnandt was unable to convert from short range. After 67 minutes, taponnat's Adolphe Van Kemseke successfully broke up a pass with his face. Instinctively, he got up again only to unintentionally use his now-throbbing schnozz to break up a second pass. As he was carted off for a concussion check, Toh Xin Wen ran onto the field to take his place. As the captain was no longer on the field, Stratis Zacharidis took over the role for taponnat. MOUN's Nicolas Bertolo swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. taponnat were given a lifeline when the referee pointed to the spot 78 minutes into the game. Stratis Zacharidis struck the penalty well, making it 2 - 1. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Florian Chevalier was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 90 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. The match ends 2 - 1. The forty-five minutes were dominated by MOUN, with an impressive 66 percent possession of the ball.

MOUN's best player was Olivier Mounier. Good thing János Dobány isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. taponnat's top performer was clearly Sebastián Alejandro Vidal. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Toh Xin Wen seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
