Due to an all-day shower, 1609 paying spectators got to see the game on a field-turned-swamp at Cité de la Peur. Whakarewapounamu Hammermeister was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Linus Ulmi and Panithan Kraisomdech. Lineup: Rateau - Callar, Hoarau - Lambert, Szőke, Serocki, Hojjati Mofid, Dupuis - Duval, Isca, Monika.

The following players had been selected: Negrini - Grafite, Árting - Groebe-Kobus, Maczkó, Kruś, Peyrot, Thu Yazan - Poupeau, Oshkalo, Vigneron.

Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Ignat Oshkalo might as well have been wearing Pilgrim shoes for all the traction he could get on the waterlogged field - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today. After 17 minutes cheers broke out as Péter Szőke found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 1 - 0 goal in off the woodwork for MarsCity. A run up the right wing paid off for Venise as Lajos Maczkó hit a wicked shot past the keeper to tie the game. 1 - 1 after 20 minutes. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Abel Monika, but the MarsCity player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1! A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in MarsCity's Stefano Isca bringing the lead up to 3 - 1. José Callar should probably have put his team up another goal after 38 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by Pietro Negrini kept the visitors in the game. The muddy field made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit Baptiste Hoarau just fine. The referee showed MarsCity's Wiktor Serocki the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Halftime score was 3 - 1. MarsCity did a good job holding on to the ball, with 67 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

58 minutes had passed when MarsCity put themselves up 4 - 1 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to Abel Monika, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. After 80 minutes, Baptiste Hoarau put MarsCity ahead 5 - 1 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. Gabin Poupeau of Venise was able to make an impressive run past the sluggish Wiktor Serocki, which resulted in the 5 - 2 goal. 85 minutes into the game, MarsCity's Stefano Isca tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Stefano Isca increased MarsCity's lead to 6 - 2, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. Stefano Isca could have put MarsCity up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 87 minutes. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 6 - 2. MarsCity set the tempo, maintaining 71 percent of possession.

Most important MarsCity player was Abel Monika. Good thing David Rateau isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Jean Vigneron performed admirably for Venise. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Hørdur Árting today.
