Sadistan 1 - 4 BSC

Due to an all-day shower, 45483 paying spectators got to see the game on a field-turned-swamp at Estadio de la Revolución Berlin (QQQQK-Memorial). Stefano Bernhardt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Hynek Galko and Andrzej Wajda. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. The rivalry game had been the talk of Berlin all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. Starters: Kima - Haggren, Quiroga - Aloma, Ghidini, 辉光 (Huiguang), Michel, Nogues - Morteanu, Öykü, Pirraglia.

The following players took the field: Sanzharevskiy - Mozelt, Gerads, Briesen, Gnoth - Friedeburg, Koblenz, Pinto, Schambach, Böcklemünd - Furundarena.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 4-5-1. Like the adage "bend but don't break", BSC will rely on their magical ability to counter-attack today. With 9 minutes gone, the home side took a 1 - 0 lead as Valfredo Quiroga raced down the right flank and casually flipped the ball into the net after a searing cross from the far side of the pitch. The crowd was silenced 11 minutes into the match as the visiting team's Niran Pinto came in from the left, tying the game up at 1 - 1. The goal to make it 1 - 2 was scored by Jörg-Arne Briesen with 13 minutes on the clock, following an opportunistic counter-attack down the middle by BSC. 1 - 2 was the halftime score. Sadistan did a good job holding on to the ball, with 55 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Some fine one-twos on the left led to a BSC goal with 50 minutes gone, making it 1 - 3. Malte Böcklemünd was noted down as the scorer. Sadistan needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 70 minutes Tan Öykü made way for Lionel Jouannet. BSC's David Furundarena was shown a yellow card after 72 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The bench was restless, and with 75 minutes gone Sadistan's coach gave 袁 (Yuan) 聪嵘 (Congrong) the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. Nicolas Michel reluctantly left the field. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Sadistan's Uba Aloma was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the field after 80 minutes. Leandro Bruschera was given a chance to change things around. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Giuliano Pirraglia tried lifting the ball over keeper Anatoliy Sanzharevskiy. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. The home crowd was not impressed when Gianluca Koblenz came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 84 minutes. BSC were now up 1 - 4. The BSC players could smell victory in the air. Niran Pinto wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Andreas Johann Matuschek after 88 minutes. Jörg-Arne Briesen had put in a good 89 minutes and left the field with a smile on his face due to his team's lead. Richardt Habermann was the replacement. BSC's Hugo Friedeburg wanted to play on, but after 89 minutes the decision was made to give August Schopphoven a chance in his place. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 1 - 4. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Sadistan would have 53 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Sadistan's top performer was clearly Rodrigo Nogues. I can't remember 袁 (Yuan) 聪嵘 (Congrong) ever having a worse night than he just had. Most important BSC player was David Furundarena. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Andreas Johann Matuschek today.
