Overcast weather free of rain made for a turnout of 1058 at Marakanal Stadion today. Amadeo Piñeiro was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Adam Schnellmann and Houtan Alikhani. They fielded: Emden - Wingershausen, Feltes, Hickl, Dasinger - Schleussing, Schnapp, Flecken, Wetterstein, Wormsbächer - Dausner.

The following players had been selected: Unger - Bembrive, Jeger, Tokle - Prada, Löwenstein, do Carmo Luiz, Catti, Haklberger - Pellkofen, Kreuzahler.

Nakatomi Sehnde started the game in a 4-5-1 formation, whereas Liberty Wirringen 07 lined up in a 3-5-2. Nakatomi fans held their breath as Rolof Wingershausen gallivanted down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and fired home the go-ahead goal for 1 - 0! After 16 minutes, Kurt Wormsbächer suffered a slight injury to his left calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Nakatomi's Siegrich Schleussing got himself booked. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Nakatomi did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Nico Haklberger's Road Runner-esque speed was too much for Rolof Wingershausen who could only look on as the Liberty player blasted one home. 1 - 1. 56 minutes into the game, Nakatomi wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Götz Schnapp gave Olaf Rester a quick hug as he left the field. After 64 minutes, Liberty's Eliseo Bembrive made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2. The swift technical skills of Kléber do Carmo Luiz were often too much for the tall but somewhat slow Rolof Wingershausen who was humiliated after 67 minutes. He'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief after the final shot went wide. The referee showed Liberty's Karol Jeger the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Nakatomi needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 74 minutes Johannes Dausner made way for Gerrit Thees. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Nakatomi's Heinz Feltes came in from the right after 79 minutes and put the ball in the net to even the score at 2 - 2. Liberty's Yngve Tokle was shown a yellow card after 80 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 81 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Nakatomi to take the lead after a good ball from the right found Olaf Rester alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Nakatomi's Rolof Wingershausen finally got himself booked for a foul. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. After the regular 91 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Nakatomi would have 56 percent possession in this half was spot on!

After extra time, the game was still tied and a penalty kick shootout ensued.

Nakatomi's Rolof Wingershausen was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball into the net. 3 - 2! Before Liberty's Wiljan Löwenstein could shoot, the lights went out, darkening the stadium. Once they came back on, you could sense the pressure was too much for him and he ended up missing his penalty shot. The score remains 3 - 2. Nakatomi's Roland Emden didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Patrick Unger. The score remained 3 - 2. Andrea Catti had a lot to say to the keeper before taking his penalty, but he was all sound and no fury as he launched his shot straight down the middle - right into the arms of Roland Emden. The scores remains the same: 3 - 2. Nakatomi's Kurt Wormsbächer proved he has nerves of steel from the penalty spot, changing the score to 4 - 2. Liberty's Karol Jeger looked nervous on his walk from the center circle. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. Nakatomi's Heinz Feltes hesitated a long time before shooting. Maybe too long, as his penalty flew just wide of the left hand post. Still 4 - 2. When it comes to placing a ball precisely, Kléber do Carmo Luiz is a real wizard. He knocked it home for Liberty to make the score 4 - 3. Nakatomi's Monty Hickl coolly put the ball past Patrick Unger. 5 - 3. The match ends 5 - 3. Roland Emden performed admirably for Nakatomi. Speaking of stinking up the place, Gerrit Thees sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Liberty's best player was Richard Kreuzahler. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Andrea Catti seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
