It had rained all day, but 16816 hardy fans still made it out to Comunale. Mattias Sundberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jens-Guido 'das Arbeitstier' Herl and Cyrille Marliot. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. The following players took the field: Detratto - Spetsieris, Grinovero, Stegmann - Maraloi, Eigims, Toffanin, Zerbinati, Zaniboni - Dascăl, Noyon.

Lineup: Frassoni - Al-Habsi, Demaçi, Mi - Maravigna, Züfle, Stasieczek, Meinel, da Cruz - Sánchez, Angemi.

A 3-5-2 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Giana seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their magnificent ability to great effect. A wonderful trick by Philhard Meinel after 7 minutes left Ieremias Spetsieris bewildered and really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. Giana took the lead 15 minutes in, as Mircea Dascăl broke through on the left and put his shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper, bringing the score to 1 - 0. Sukhebaatar Noyon went down after twisting his left ankle after 25 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. Jean-Philippe Wuttlertried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. plovacsplayers leveled the score after 32 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as Fadel Al-Habsi struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. After a fine move down the middle Andris Eigims nearly put the home side one up with 33 minutes played. His final touch escaped him though and the keeper smothered the ball. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Giana set the tempo, maintaining 63 percent of possession.

65 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a plovacsplayers substitution. Angelo Cavasin came on for Jan Stasieczek. Daniele Stegmann's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 74 following a run up the middle gave Giana the 2 - 1 lead. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 79 minutes on the clock after Ieremias Spetsieris's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Giana player a yellow card though. Giana had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. 81 minutes into the game, Giana were awarded a penalty that Gianmaria Grinovero converted into a bigger lead without so much as a how-do-you-do to the visiting keeper. It's 3 - 1 now! The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 3 - 1. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Giana had 64...64 percent possession. AH AH AH!

The most outstanding Giana player was without a doubt Mircea Dascăl. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Salvo Zaniboni seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Luis Sánchez performed admirably for plovacsplayers. Speaking of stinking up the place, Ezechiele Frassoni sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
