Great 0 - 8 Dale

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 12000 to FC Great Bear Arena. Hans-Toni Standlmaier was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Manuele Betta and Jan Wierzejski. It was a very hot day and some players suffered from this, especially those relying on tough physical play or a lot of fast runs. For the technical ones, on the other hand, this was ideal conditions. All of Greater Manchester was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the local rivalry game. The following players took the field: Walter - Sanford, Gillon, Romani, Carragher - D'Eath, Schriner, Appleby, Fear - Grant, Dale.

The following players had been selected: Amaireh - Parkes, Agrawal, Hlucháň - Rosen, Shevkov, Boglione, Zahren, Faulkner - Berger, Maggio.

FC Great Bear fielded a 4-4-2 lineup. For Rochdale United, the formation of choice was a 3-5-2. It was an obvious ambition of Dale to play a wide game with their magnificent ability to attack down the wings. Dale's Sean 'Sharpshooter' Zahren gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 15 minutes with a superb strike from the right. Anthony Gillon of Great received a yellow card after 20 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 21 minutes into the game, but Dale sent the ball sideways instead, giving Cristoforo 'Super' Maggio a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 0 - 2! The game had been going for 24 minutes when Nitin Agrawal broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3 for Dale, much to the home crowd's dismay. Given a free kick from an impossible angle, Dale went for a play that loyal fans may recognize from training. A square ball surprised the defense and let Cristoforo 'Super' Maggio slip through at goal. He hit it first time, making the score 0 - 4, 27 minutes into the game. After 32 minutes, Eduard Hlucháň took a hard knock between his legs. He needed a long breather but were eventually able to continue the game. 0 - 4 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Dale, with an impressive 71 percent possession of the ball.

Shane 'Ham' Berger somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Dale's lead up to 0 - 5. After 61 minutes, Dale's Shane 'Ham' Berger burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 6. It was obvious that Dale had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. 80 minutes into the game, Dale worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. John D'Eath managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but Norbert Dale was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. Andy Parkes increased Dale's lead to 0 - 7 with a superb free kick that flew in just under the crossbar at the far post. Anthony Gillon remonstrated furiously with the referee after Great had another decision go against them. His teammates tried to calm him down, but the referee had no alternative but to show him another yellow card and send him from the field. As Anthony Gillon left the field, the coach signaled to Vince Schriner to start taking the set pieces that occurred. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Given a free kick from a ways out after 91 minutes, Dale sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but Sean 'Sharpshooter' Zahren was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 0 - 8. The match ends 0 - 8. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Dale had 71...71 percent possession. AH AH AH!

Most important Great player was Stuart Grant. Good thing Ian Romani isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Borislav Shevkov performed admirably for Dale. Speaking of stinking up the place, Rufus Rosen sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
