allstars 0 - 3 SSFC

The local marching band welcomed a crowd of 51318 to ojeez11 allstars Arena. Ronen Peres was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Radoje Prokić and Juan Alfonso Tornero. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Lagos rivalry match and the crowd was divided evenly. They fielded: Blanc - Neumeyer, Vollenweider, Verwij, Peepson - Kjellsson, Siller, Burns, Wyness - Urtazun, Utti.

Starters: Molbo - Hulin, Lisák, Peresutti, Strauven - Della Marchina, Pieters, Kritikos, Getino - Venn, Ozuna.

A 4-4-2 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Like a mighty wizard in the hellish lair of the balrog, allstars is aiming to smother the Hephaestian flames of attack with solid skill. Trespass is forbidden! Alas, Balrog, you shall not pass! Today, SSFC's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their utopian ability. Marlon Venn came close to putting the visiting team one up 12 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Rémi Blanc managed to tip the ball over. 19 minutes into the match, SSFC nearly took the lead, as Marlon Venn broke through on the right. However, Rémi Blanc made the save. The referee showed SSFC's Haris Kritikos the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. A slight injury to his right calf muscle meant Niklas Siller had to leave the match early. It happened after 22 minutes. This gave Peter Chuckwu a chance to take to the field instead. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Marlon Venn slipped through the left defense to come up alone against Rémi Blanc, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning-fast reflexes. Despite the fact that he was falling backwards, Marco Peresutti still managed to send an excellent header goalwards. The crossbar is the keeper's best friend though, and the ball bounced harmlessly out of play. The pressing tactics used by allstars were successful as the ball didn't make it out of the middle third very much. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by SSFC, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.

After 49 minutes, SSFC put themselves up 0 - 1, as Cataldo Della Marchina finished off a play from the left with a real rocket. 51 minutes into the game, Sipo Utti came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar. Oto Lisák will have Excedrin Headache number 5 after heading home the hard corner kick from Chris Strauven after 67 minutes of play. I'm sure that making the score 0 - 2 will assuage him a bit, though. 68 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Godfried Pieters finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. Pedro Andrés Ozuna had put in a good 73 minutes and left the field with a smile on his face due to his team's lead. Julian Egger was the replacement. The SSFC coach was happy with the scoreline, but still wanted to change the lineup. After 75 minutes, Aurelian Ciucuriţă came on for Godfried Pieters. 75 minutes into the match, Julian Egger came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. With 76 minutes played, SSFC's Thierry Hulin received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 0 - 3. SSFC did a good job holding on to the ball, with 59 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

The most outstanding allstars player was without a doubt Orlando Vollenweider. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Henrik Kjellsson seemed to stumble all over the pitch. SSFC's top performer was clearly Julian Egger. I can't remember Marco Peresutti ever having a worse night than he just had.
