FKAK 3 - 1 BZB

Clear skies welcomed the 34709 spectators who had made their way to im. Piotra Workowskiego. Francisco Gandarias was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Robert Marston and Ole Weißing. Starters: Bassem - McCarthy, Prokuratov, Ayet, Witwicki - Delahousse, Hortezuelo, Pasttrana, Hintz - Kalhøj, Barbagalli.

The following players had been selected: Quijano - Humphries, Grenda, Weiss - Madaliński, Grzeszkowiak, Draga, Kułagowski, Szymkowiak - Gwizdała, Kolas.

FK Arsenal Kraków trundled out to the pitch in a 4-4-2 formation. The visitors, Biało- Zieloni, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Using their world class counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for FKAK today. With 23 minutes played, Jérôme Delahousse knocked one home from a counter-attack down the right wing, making the score 1 - 0. Crispiniano Hortezuelo was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 24 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. Cheers filled the stadium as Jérôme Delahousse broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 2 - 0 goal for FKAK. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. BZB did a good job holding on to the ball, with 53 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

BZB breathed new life into the game with an attempt to reduce the lead after 54 minutes, but the home side's defenders cleared the ball off the line, after a long shot coming in from the left rebounded off the crossbar. After 59 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Columbus McCarthy might have resulted in another goal for FKAK. However, Juan Antonio Quijano made a spectacular save. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. José Eduardo Pasttrana was able to squirm through the central defense after 60 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 0. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, BZB's Cezary Szymkowiak was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the field after 75 minutes. Edmund Jagusz was given a chance to change things around. The traveling fans had something to cheer about as Mieczysław 'Megi' Gwizdała took a successful penalty kick 78 minutes into the match, reducing the home lead to 3 - 1. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 3 - 1. The forty-five minutes were dominated by BZB, with an impressive 53 percent possession of the ball.

The most outstanding FKAK player was without a doubt Aureli Ayet. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Ernst Kalhøj today. BZB's top performer was clearly Wojciech Kolas. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Juan Antonio Quijano seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
