Norge 2 - 1 Sverige

Clouds darkened the skies at Kvernhushaugen as 23938 spectators turned up for the match. Giancarlo Casellato was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Xavier Garriga and Robert Szachta. Starters: Liane - Sæstad, Melvær, Røed, Lorentzen, Minge - Elde, Eriksen, Kaspersen, Henriksen - Høiby.

The following players took the field: Silukân - Höstér, Bengtsson, Henriksson, Kjellsson, Tranbratt - Saitoti, Stigquist - Håkansson, Kuusirati, Yngvesson.

U-20 Norge fielded a 5-4-1 lineup. For U-20 Sverige, the formation of choice was a 5-2-3. U-20 Norge took a creative approach on the field. A world class level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of U-20 Sverige. Was that a pass or a bad touch? Either way, the inexperienced Rune Sæstad almost gave U-20 Sverige a goal, but luckily they couldn't capitalize on the mistake. The U-20 Norge free kick 23 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But it was no mistake - Simen Røed seemingly came out of nowhere and had miles of space to control the ball and pick his spot. That's 1 - 0! After 30 minutes, U-20 Sverige used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by U-20 Sverige, with an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.

U-20 Norge's Kjetil Eriksen wanted to play on, but after 48 minutes the decision was made to give Dag Samuelsen a chance in his place. Leif Erik Minge caused panic among his colleagues with some mad dribbles inside his own penalty box, but U-20 Sverige's Joakim Yngvesson put his shot just wide. The U-20 Norge coach was happy with the scoreline, but still wanted to change the lineup. After 52 minutes, Jan Storevik came on for Tor Henriksen. Björn Henriksson tied the game at 1 - 1 after 56 minutes, when he converted an incredible pass from the right. Maybe Robert Stigquist should join the aquatics team instead. He went down dramatically after 57 minutes, crying out with agony as he fell. The referee was not impressed, though, and showed him a yellow for diving. After 58 minutes, it looked like U-20 Sverige had an attack coming, but Benjamin 'Button' Kaspersen nipped all that in the bud with a powerful tackle. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a U-20 Sverige substitution. Anders Bengtsson came on for Holger 'Galgen' Håkansson. 60 minutes into the game, U-20 Sverige wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Björn Henriksson gave Anders Frostenland a quick hug as he left the field. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, U-20 Norge's Richard Elde got himself booked. As the 70 minute mark approached, the U-20 Norge manager decided it was time for a substitution. Rune Sæstad reluctantly made way for David Tillung. As Rune Sæstad left the field, the coach signaled to Kjell-Erik Høiby to start taking the set pieces that occurred. With the match clock at 70 minutes, U-20 Norge modified their style of play a little bit. The coach of U-20 Norge wanted to try to mix things up after 70 minutes, and gave new tactical instructions. Priding himself in being an active coach, the U-20 Norge manager gave new directions for his players after 70 minutes. With 71 minutes played, U-20 Sverige's Torkel 'Törnminator' Bengtsson received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. 72 minutes into the game, U-20 Norge's Terje Lorentzen rolled over in great pain after taking a forceful blow to his upper chest. The medics bandaged his collarbone before carrying him off on a stretcher. The coach had his head in his hands, as he realised he could not send a replacement onto the pitch. The team had to continue a man short. Unsportsmanlike behavior by Robert Stigquist earned him his second booking of the match, and U-20 Sverige had to finish the game with a reduced squad. As U-20 Sverige's captain went off, he handed the armband to Per Kjellsson. With the clock showing 83 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Reinhold Höstér looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Jesper Apelerberg, though he would have liked to continue. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! Anders Bengtsson really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great flick by Jesper Apelerberg after a corner. The long pass from U-20 Norge's Leif Erik Minge caught the defense out of position. Kjell-Erik Høiby collected the ball with the goal as open as McDonald's on a Friday night. 2 - 1. The match ends 2 - 1. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that U-20 Sverige would have 71 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Tore 'Toro' Liane performed admirably for U-20 Norge. Speaking of stinking up the place, Dag Samuelsen sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. U-20 Sverige's best player was Joakim Yngvesson. I can't remember Torkel 'Törnminator' Bengtsson ever having a worse night than he just had.
