Dale 4 - 0 billies

Dark skies made the crowd of 13066 at Springfield Park a little nervous, but the rain held off. Girolamo Di Giacomo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kéba Guiran and Abdul Talib bin Mohd Derus. They fielded: Amaireh - Parkes, Agrawal, Hlucháň - Sulka, Maggio, Boglione, Michaelis - Zahren, Berger, Shevkov.

Starters: Winders - Czapor, Flömer, Duff - Rzeźnikowski, London, Segales, Tronconi, Cleaver - Martin, Roeger.

Rochdale United trundled out to the pitch in a 3-4-3 formation. The visitors, billies bunters, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Like the adage "bend but don't break", Dale will rely on their formidable ability to counter-attack today. billies went for a narrow approach, using their magnificent ability to focus their attacks down the middle. The 4 minute mark saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a breaking through on the left. The scorer for Dale was Sean 'Sharpshooter' Zahren. billies's Arnaldo Segales rushed past his defender and should have scored, but the finish was just wide, taking some paint off the post as it went out. Rodger Cleaver made a quick break after 11 minutes, but Andy Parkes had no problem keeping up and was able to stop the attack. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. Shane 'Ham' Berger was able to squirm through the central defense after 16 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 2 - 0. Dale put themselves up 3 - 0 when Sean 'Sharpshooter' Zahren broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. It emerged that Cristoforo 'Super' Maggio had hurt his right foot after 34 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. This gave Garth 'Vader' Sumerel a chance to take to the field instead. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Dale had 57...57 percent possession. AH AH AH!

The referee showed Dale's Borislav Shevkov the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Józef Rzeźnikowski went down after twisting his left ankle in minute 73, but were able to continue the match none the less. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, billies's Samuel Martin finally got himself booked for a foul. Dale will have to do without Andy Parkes for a time, due to a bad rib injury at the 80 minute mark. Sven Schragner had already been warming up, and came on for Andy Parkes. As Andy Parkes left the field, the coach signaled to Garth 'Vader' Sumerel to be the new set pieces taker. Shane 'Ham' Berger gave Dale supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0 after 82 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. A great save by keeper Leigh Winders with 85 minutes gone kept the visitors in the game after Alberto Boglione struck from the left with a real cannonball. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, billies's Kyle Duff was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the field after 89 minutes. Clinton Karban was given a chance to change things around. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 90 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving Samuel Martin completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, rolling slowly to the home side's keeper. The match ends 4 - 0. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Dale, with an impressive 51 percent possession of the ball.

Dale's best player was Borislav Shevkov. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Nitin Agrawal seemed to stumble all over the pitch. billies's top performer was clearly Rodger Cleaver. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Clinton Karban today.
