CERT 1 - 5 Pewsum

Clouds darkened the skies at Jersey Side Stadium as 33281 spectators turned up for the match. Stéphane Demarque was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gottfried Helg and Étienne Brame. Lineup: Zywicki - Snedeker, Kissinger, Lapeña, Campos - Donovan, Verwoert, Merheb, Chávez - Mondragón, Brun.

The following players took the field: Dubois - Casillas, Marconi, Caycedo - Corona, LeMaire, Bradshaw, Stallworth, Lundin - Gregory, Leduc.

Cape Express Rolling Thunder trundled out to the pitch in a 4-4-2 formation. The visitors, TuS Pewsum, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. After 2 minutes, CERT sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Peter Snedeker, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 1 - 0. The whole arena was freaked out by the sight of CERT's Andrés Mariano Mondragón slamming his head so hard into the post, that he lost consciousness for what felt like minutes. He was stretchered off with great care, already awake and smiling but probably with weeks of rest ahead of him. Veselin Taskov had already been warming up, and came on for Andrés Mariano Mondragón. The visitors got just what they'd been looking for after 22 minutes when Cole Gregory received a pass from the left and buried it in the bottom corner, leveling it at 1 - 1. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Léon Leduc was unable to give the visitors the go-ahead goal after his attack from the left in minute 38. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Pewsum set the tempo, maintaining 58 percent of possession.

The visiting Cole Gregory was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 62 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. A thrilling play through the middle after 63 minutes gave Pewsum's Cole Gregory a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 1 - 3. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for Cole Gregory! That's the name of the game! Almost all the way down at the corner flag, Pewsum's José Refugio Corona somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for Léon Leduc, who scored for 1 - 4. With 71 minutes played, Pewsum put themselves up 1 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Cole Gregory. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, CERT's Pepe Lapeña finally got himself booked for a foul. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 1 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 1 - 5. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Pewsum, with an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.

Most important CERT player was Rieks Verwoert. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Omar Donovan seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Pewsum's top performer was clearly Cole Gregory. I can't remember José Refugio Corona ever having a worse night than he just had.
